Heads up on Open Box from BB! They WILL put lemon computers back on the shelf and resell them, over and over, claiming to have fixed/repaired whatever issue exists(ed). One thing to watch out for - the manufacturer's warranty expiration date. Oftentimes these systems will have little to no manufacturer warranty left on them, so BUYER BEWARE! Check the service tag for history and warranty expiration BEFORE buying!

And IF you get a lemon, you are out of luck unless a store near you has another open box to exchange it with. No, trust me. I've been through this twice in the past 6 months with them on two different open box systems. The first one, THEY suggested an exchange (which requires returning the one you already bought) when I asked for a return period extension after Dell told me the system needed to be shipped back to the depot for repairs (I would've been out of the 15-day return period doing this). After waiting over a month for the exchange system (yes, a MONTH), they finally admitted it would never ship because they didn't have another open box at ANY store, and they could no longer get that config from Dell. I was super mad about it too because I could've sent the first one back to Dell for repair and already had it back in that month I waited. The store manager agreed to exchange it for a completely different model (newer) at the same price, and that one has been 100% fine from the start.

The last one I bought in July - Dell replaced the motherboard and video card. A week later, the video card failed again, and then the hard drive was failing diags on and off. I went to BB asking for an exchange because Dell told me it had to come from BB (which isn't 100% true, but that's another story). They flat-out refused an exchange because I was out of the return period. They offered to give me credit towards another laptop of my choosing, even trying to convince me to accept a lower configuration (one I bought had an i9 and a 4080 - they were pushing an i7 with a 4070), saying it was an upgrade from what I bought (not even close!). They finally agreed to allow me to return for a full refund. That laptop was back on the shelf as an open box (at over $500 less than what I paid in the same "fair" condition) with more UPS shipping labels on it than you can imagine within weeks. No joke!

Beware, and if you get open box as for any laptop make sure and try it in store before purchasing. I tried to get this exact laptop after using alienware the last 7 years, and it was DOA, dead mobo, and they were still trying to sell it.

Glad i didnt actually take it with me.

Ended up getting a legion with same specs (i9) for around same price.

There is one near me and I almost pulled the trigger, but this is a fairly old model.Historically, it looks like this model has been on sale for $1300-$1400, so $1000 open box sounds about right and is a decent, but not a buy-first-think-later kind of deal.

The biggest killer for me is that the display panel is TN, as opposed to IPS that R2 has.

Fwiw, I'd check your temps when running the laptop. I picked up a older m15 years ago and noticed the temps were high so I replaced the thermal paste. Worked great.

Also, replace your paste every few years. It is a wear item and can be a reason laptops will shit the bed after a few years

Got one! Picked it up in the Bay Area, it's open box, no issues at the moment, ran some 3DMark test, fans barely spun up.

Started up Genshin Impact, no issues, buttery smooth FPS. 🙌

I bought 1 @$1400 after tax 1 month ago, but the logo on cover can not light up and blue tooth is totally not working, and the power adapter is a brick type, then I returned it. And got a brand new R2

Don't buy dell

How's the cooling on the m16? Heard Alienware models can get a bit hot under load.

Purchased a Asus G75 open box for $800 from BB twelve years ago (3rd Gen i7)... runs a 660M.

I upgraded memory, hard drive and installed a clean OS... the laptop has yet to fail me and I use it daily.

By the way... it played BolderGate3... but "BARELY"

Same year we purchased a Dell scratch and dent for $350. I upgraded memory, hard drive and installed a clean OS... the laptop has also yet to fail me and it still gets use. (3rd Gen i5)

Fun fact...BB Geek Squad used to scan the hard drives of computers sent in for repair for the FBI with no probable cause.

I completely wish I had seen this last year around this time. I am also a victim of Best Buys scam on this part of the business practice. It makes me so mad I even went to the bbb about the issue, and it didn't do any good. No refund was offered to me, no compensation, nothing! Instead, they ended up banning me from buying on Best Buys website like come on seriously. I did nothing wrong cheated no one, and also on top of the issue, I ordered galaxy tabs for Christmas that year, and I ended up getting someone else's order completely! It's very super frustrating. Like I see, all these youtubers complain about newegg for stuff, but my god Best Buy is ten times worse. To even put the butter on the bread, they wouldn't give me a reason why I was banned from buying on Best Buys website. How messed up is that.

The BBB won't do any good on the issue. I did that, and they banned me from buying on the website and also didn't even me an exact reason for it they literally retaliated against me for doing a BBB claim.
