Why'd they cheap out with W11 Home?

Bright screen, and anti-glare is amazing once you own one. Looks solid with good build quality.

Thinkpads are usually expensive when they start. The z series is one of the better series i assume. Plus this is touchscreen with 100% sRGB color and with 1TB space, so ig 2k for a thinkpad with these specs is understandable. Im not saying its justified. But thats how they usually price it i suppose.

One professional review mentions system stability issues with this model. Was this ever resolved?

It's their premium build model. Almost MacBook-like (or more like Dell XPS build). So $2000 MSRP isn't too far from true. But I believe you could almost get some sort of discount or other on it. For $600, this is a pretty decent deal. Wish it had OLED though.

Here's a prime example of Lenovo pricing:

I have this laptop. Overall, I'm happy with it. Build quality is really nice and sturdy. One issue, it takes a while to boot up. Your power on and it takes about a minute to boot into the desktop. Not sure why this is happening, thought it was faulty at first - but just seems to be the way it operates. Once booted up, it runs great

What if you set Windows to hibernate instead (for instance, in the power settings, set lid close to hibernate)?

That's an option. I've always thought that shutting down the laptop is better for the longevity of the computer - but I may be wrong

Hibernate is different from sleep. It saves your computer state to your SSD and shuts down.
When you turn on, it just restores that image to memory. Should be quicker and doesn't drain your battery.

But it was really around $1500... y'all just getting spoiled with the price wars... New gen chips are really few generations leap over anything we've seen in the past 5 years. I wouldn't spend more than $500 on any laptop that's NOT the latest chips. Except maybe some ryzen, then $600 but only if I LOVED the computer

One may want to check reviews and feedback from customers before considering this.

Also sold not by Lenovo, but by "Antonline" (Lenovo Authorized seller) who stockpiled on 3 years old model and tries to misrepresent it on Ebay as "Release Year 2024". Just something to think about.

for $140 more you can get much better config from Levono store
https://www.ebay.com/itm/156325453835
+ dedicated GPU AMD Radeon RX 6500M 4GB GDDR6
+ 16″ OLED display at 3840 x 2400
256 GB SSD can be replaced with anything you like

I need a 17" version of this. It seems that neither Lenovo nor Dell make 17" laptops anymore.

now $820, BTW
