I had the exact opposite experience, Oral B user for 10 years and switched to an ultrasonic 3 years ago. My hygienist noticed less buildup and staining.

I've had the flosser for a few years. Probably 1 1/2 years ago I bought the toothbrush for travel and am satisfied. It stays packed up all of the time and uses little room in my shaving kit.

Hygienists really can't tell that very well. Sure they know a tiny bit of calculus from a moderate or heavy amount, but a hygienist doesn't keep the kind of records or memory to say if there is 10% reduction in tartar deposits. Also, they aren't generally pulling out a shade guide, and it's very difficult to discern a slight difference in shade. Toothpaste has way more effect on shade than a brush would anyway. If it works for you, that's great, but I'm just letting you know that they gave a compliment to your hygiene in passing, and they can't tell subtle differences between toothbrushes.

Not in my case, I had a reoccurring spot that she always needed to put in extra effort to fully clean, and that got a lot better.

Obviously everyone is different, but ultrasonics for the win for me.
