Because it's been an ongoing issue for YEARS. There has been a class action lawsuit. Gamers know it's a legit issue even tho I've heard many say they dont have it. The high majority of ppl I play shooter mp games have it.
I take care of my controllers, not once has thrown it and I've always had the issue on all Microsoft controllers since the Xbox one. ONLY controllers without the issue weren't Microsoft branded.
I personally wish every thread on every single sub/post social media about their controllers were put on blast until they fixed the issue. They know it's an issue but don't care.

I think a lot of people that see the post about stick drift assume it's someone outside of the MS ecosystem that wants to talk trash. I've been with MS gaming for a long time and I'm too far in to go elsewhere. The stick drift is definitely an issue. Not all of my controllers have got it but I've had enough to know. I can understand the occasional quality issues, but the number of people having this issue (even with newer controllers) means its an engineering issue.
But the real reason to get that front plate is the antifriction rings, which elevates this to my favorite controller. I even use it over my excellent razer wolverine because it's so dang comfortable...

I've been using the One S controller for about 5-6 years now. Not the most intense gamer, but the sticks are still going strong. I replaced the rubber on top and it still works fine. I actually had more issues with the A button since it sometimes registers multiple inputs.
Series controllers like these are reported to have issues but if you are really worried, the 8bitdo ultimate 2C is always there. I got the Series controller from Lenovo early this year and the box wasn't damaged at all.

My PS5 controller which does nothing but sit on my desk if it's not being used has the most severe drift I've ever had.
It's not a Microsoft thing. Just stop buying non-hall controllers.

The sticks feel smooth, instead of rough plastic on rough plastic. It's the one real cheapo thing about the xbox controller if you compare to any pro controller or even the dual sense.

Mine has held up perfectly. as my primary controller. It holds up for most people.
Finally got me when I bought the original Elite 2 controller, talk about a kick in the oblongs.
Only one though knock on wood. Was so satisfied with the battery on the Elite, I went back for another. By then, Microsoft claims to have updated it to fix common issues (RB from hell I had too). So far so good 2 years in.

What are the benefits of the rings?
