Another thread here for filters mentions to use low MERV rating filters to elongate the life of HVAC systems.

What's the rating of this? Also it says replace every 6 to 12 months. That's a first I've seen as most are 1 month or 3 month filters.

I'm guessing since these are 4" vs the 1" usually posted that it is *almost* 4 times the surface area so they last longer?
Someone with more knowledge chime in if they read this thread Smilie

***I say *almost* because the pleats are diagonal and not accounting for the ends of the pleats that don't do much filtering and no stats on how much if denser or not the pleats are amongst other factors***

Try multiple orders; ship some to other family members; visit the store multiple times.

These ones are 4 in deep, standard ones are only one inch deep the extra 3 in gives a much larger surface area. So if your HVAC system is designed for a 4-in filter the higher merve is oftentimes okay. But you have to check your system to see how it's designed and what it needs.

I got these a few weeks ago, and was pretty disappointed. Suspect the price is good because they are factory rejects. The pleats weren't separated and glued evenly. At the ends inside, they seemed to be missing the glue allowing for a gap. Not the quality I was expecting from using the 1" versions for at least the last 10 years.

Ahh.... Missed the 4 inch part.
No wonder they are longer lasting.

I don't understand how $30 for a 2-pack is a deal? I buy the HDX generic brand filters from Home Depot $13 for a 3-pack, and I can't tell the difference and I have pets.

The ones at Home Depot are 1" filters and these are 4" - big difference.

Note for people reading this: Your furnace has to be equipped with a 4" filter slot in order to use them. Most furnaces and vent openings are 1".
