And they have no sense of "system"... I know that may sound pretentious, but at least with LEGO blocks you can use them interchangeably for color specific variations if you choose. The same "part" comes in many different colors. The parts in Mega Construx seem to be very set specific.
I won't even get into how the knockoffs "steal" designs from LEGO and other LEGO enthusiasts to make their sets cheaper. Pretty much every free set on Rebrickable probably has a knockoff, and those are "bigger sets that Lego hasn't even touched".
