You might be thinking of the 9th gen. The 10th gen iPad has never been $200. At $280 it's $20 lower than the most recent Front Page deal (Amazon), which was the lowest price I'd seen on it to that point. I'd say this is a pretty good deal. If you can wait, Apple is rumored to be releasing an 11th gen sometime this year. If it comes in at $349 as a replacement for the 10th gen, then this one might come down under $250. But for someone who's in the market for a tablet, this is a good deal.

The Xth gen is already available for the Armed Forces at $225, I think.
That should be confirmation of what you suspect, next gen coming in and price reduction of Xth gen.

Depends on what you use it for, if you want to do heavy duty photo/video editing and Apple Intelligence, then yeah, go with M1/M2, but you will pay more. But for casual users I think this is an excellent deal, it will be supported longer than the 9th Gen, plus this already uses the USB-C cable for charging.

You're right. It was a fluke with the Target Circle app showing the wrong price. I just saw title of someone's post about it and didn't try to buy or read the comments. Apparently a few people managed to get them to honor $249.99 but it was meant to be $299.99 and was corrected pretty quickly.
