Thought I was looking at a mortar round. That would be an easier way to mash meat.

It's excellent for breaking down hamburger or avocado dip, etc. Probably one of the more important kitchen gadgets. Mashed taters, breaking down chunky anything

My wife bought this and was like "gamechanger!"

As the cook of the house...I kinda hate it. If you use it too early, it gets cross contaminated. It can't flip/toss the meat, either. It's really just a worse version of a spatula as far as meat is concerned...

Potatoes, otoh, it can do really well, but only if you like chunky mash. It'll never get them very smooth, no matter how hard you try.
When you're cooking nightly for a family of six (plus frequently their friends), this thing is absolutely game changer. For small amounts, breaking up ground meat with a spatula works fine, but when cooking larger quantities, this is so much more efficient and breaks it down to smaller bits easily. Plus, we generally buy meat from Sam's or Costco and freeze all but the first use. I can throw a frozen ground meat rectangle in the skillet, and by the time the outside is browned, this is sturdy enough to break up the partially frozen chunk.

It's a more convenient way to break up ground meat when you're making stuff like chili, bolognese, soup, etc. It's more effective than a wooden spoon or spatula but it's up to you if you think that it's worth getting a specific tool for that purpose. If you're fine with the above mentioned tools, don't get it. I haven't gotten one but fwiw, I know a lot of people who are glad they have theirs.
Thanks. Don't think I need one. I have a traditionally potato masher and never use it.

I use this for ground beef, but also for breaking apart whole tomatoes when making a red sauce. One of my favorite one/few use kitchen tools.

I'd buy a metal version, but I've gotta pass on the PFAS.
This is made of nylon and doesn't have PFAs.

Recently they came out and found out these black kitchen utensils have bad health concerns and can cause cancer.

In for 1. Hopefully, it won't scratch non-stick cookware.
The product description states it is safe for non-stick and coated cookware. Nylon is generally considered "safe" for those kinds of pans; BUT, using something like this nylon masher will be harder on the nonstick coating than gently using a nylon spatula to flip an egg. So, buyer beware- if you need to mash, then a stainless or cast iron pot or pan might be a better choice for that recipe. Whatever works for you... I realize not everyone is trying to make their nonstick last a lifetime like I am. Lol

jokes aside, this hurts a little when you use it for your meat.
