Thanks OP! I just added a google voice number to my google account and ported that in. Takes no time at all. You'll need to go to GV settings and pay $3.00 to unlock the number. You'll also need to enable the "Call to Listen" setting under Voicemail which will let you set a PIN which Metro will ask for. You'll also need the google account number which is just the phone number.

Why are people buying these for trade-ins? Would such an old phone even have a high trade-in value?

I have to activate the first one in order to add the second line for the plan discount? I wonder if I can call the customer service now to add the second line?

I was wondering about this myself. I am genuinely interested in what benefits could be had by having multiple few-year-old phone models on active lines. Is it really to get a phone to trade?

Even if someone does buy an iPhone 12 or 13 with the intent to trade, carrier promos tend to be $70 (or higher) postpaid plans and, often, for 36 months of bill credits (though I think T-mobile does 24 months). Even a monthly charge of $50 * 36 months is $1800 total paid, plus probably tax on a phone that is at the cheapest, $800 for the regular iPhone 16. Which doesn't seem to be any better than buying an iPhone 16 for $829 or a Pro for $1000 up front and getting a more economical phone plan. Particularly since they might be paying anywhere between $75 (for the iPhone 12) to about $180 with tax for this iPhone 13 deal.

I have a hard time to transfer number from Tracfone. The account number and pin are correct, somehow Tracfone tends to hold the number and doesn't release it. Has somebody faced the similar problem? any trick? thank you!

I think they will need to send you a txt to your phone with 6digit code, they use it to verify your identity, but you're welcome to try and tell us how it went 😉

Can you double-check your IMEI or SIM# and TF will release the number if both are correct.

Last week I ported out from Tracfone to Tello through eSIM and the number got released in TF within 10 minutes.

Steps to follow in TF to get the account number and PIN:

1. Text FOUR to 611 611 to get the account number, If BYOP, TF SIM# or phone IMEI will be your account number.
2. NTP to 611 611 to get the transfer pin.

By using the above two, you can initiate the port-in in other providers.

Initially, I entered the wrong SIM number which rejected my port out from TF and Tello asked me to check the account number. Once I entered the correct SIM#( Account number) port-in was successful in Tello.

Thanks OP. This is my 3rd iPhone purchased from Metro in the last week. Total for me was $142 and change for this iPhone 13.

I now have 2 iPhone 12's and a 13 for trade-ins. 😂
What's the trade in value for 13?

I opened a new account as part of the iPhone 12 promo. I activated the line successfully. However it shows I am not eligible to add a line. Any know why? Says to contact customer service.
I had something similar a while back. From what I remember your metro account needs to be active for about 10 days or so to qualify for add a line. By the way, if you ported with Google voice you want to make sure that your number ported fully (not showing in your Google voice account anymore, even if you can place calls and all works seemingly fine)

Thank you so much for the detail information! I checked thee account# and PIN before porting as you mentioned. I have got the alert message about porting from tracfone right away, but the porting eventually failed.
