Thanks OP! I just added a google voice number to my google account and ported that in. Takes no time at all. You'll need to go to GV settings and pay $3.00 to unlock the number. You'll also need to enable the "Call to Listen" setting under Voicemail which will let you set a PIN which Metro will ask for. You'll also need the google account number which is just the phone number.
Looks like a free Pixel 10.

To get the menu popup again. you need to switch to different carrier sim and then go back to the sim you want to unlock

Will this phone work for t-mobile without unlock after the first month?
Thanks.

No it does not. I heard someone mentioned you can go to the store and they would make it work for free or use Mksd

So you're saying that apple or tmobile can make this phone work on a tmobile plan even if it's still locked?

Can we keep the phone in sealed condition if activated online, any effect on unlocking? Metro confirmed phone shipped, number ported and activation done.

TIA🙏

That was my original thought. I even went as far as doing a device switch on the line from the sealed phone over to an unlocked phone so that the IMEI of the sealed phone would not be bound to a Metro account. But I have not heard of anyone successfully doing this. I also had a closer look at Metro's unlocking policy - it seems that the unlocking timer is started from device (phone) activation, not account activation.

Have a look at Metro's unlock policy (https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/t...k-policy):
Quote :
Unlock eligibility requirements
We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:
The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the device's activation date.
Later on it states:
Quote :
5. When does the service requirement start?
The service requirement begins from your phone's activation date. The first day your phone is active with Metro by T-Mobile counts as day 1. Please note that your phone's activation date is different from your account's activation date.

Note: For phones under warranty exchange, the activation date is the date you originally purchased the phone, not the activation date of your warranty exchange handset.
They have spelled out the distinction between account activation and device/phone activation:

Please note that your phone's activation date is different from your account's activation date.

Porting is initiated during the ordering process, how do you intend to not port your number?

Porting is the first requirement to get the discounted price phone shipped.
I would guess if porting failed after shipping the customer service could assign a new number on request YMMV

A quick data point on porting: Tracfone numbers are problematic. Dont try, youll be annoyed and it will waste your time. 🤣

Few in this thread are successful at using T-Mobile with that eBay chip. No confirmation yet on RedPocketGSMA
