Meh, I'll bite. Tired of spending the big bucks on the top model, only to have driveshaft failure after about a year. It's happened to me about 4 times already...
the one with the giant screw on head is the E series. yes gunk can get into the base of the giant screw on part and get moldy. But I find the E series with a much stronger motor with angled brush head and are much better at cleaning my teeth. I just unscrew the head about once a week and rinse it out with water and let the inside dry out. no more mold and much better cleaning.
The one with the giant screw on heads? If yes, I'd say upgrade. Otherwise, not worth upgrading.

Do you sometimes use it instead of a sledgehammer?

Philips has a great warranty of 30 months if you register right away on website. The service is fast and replacements come quick after you call to report a problem. I called and they replaced a 4100 that I bought for a grandson for free even a month after the warranty ended!

Happened to my wife and me too. Bought two top models separately and then the Costco double pack and they all eventually fail. You'll get a replacement but they'll fail to so at this point, I consider these disposable and just get the cheapest models since I only use a single mode.

I'm genuinely curious. Why?
I think it was a European requirement so the just changed it as a worldwide model.

I love the cleaning power of Sonicare. I hate that every one I have bought in the past decade has died in about two years like clockwork. Philips has planned obsolescence down to a science, and they are so expensive. There are even YouTube videos on the most common failures. I buy them on sale ahead of the next failure.

Before jumping on this, I suggest checking in store at your local Costco. They often have nicer models with good prices.

You will need to source the power plug since it doesn't come with the box. That would be the only bad thing I can think of, while everything was just includes with the old power brick style.

How much are replacement brushes? When I looked I was seeing about $10 per brush. At that price they could give the unit away for free and it still wouldn't be a slick...

USB is easier when you travel internationally, most hotels have USB outlets, you don't need a plug adapter.

Buy them in bulk at a Costco. They're still not cheap, but they do clean very well.

I miss the days when SD was posting deals after deals of high end models. Same with Braun shavers.

Amazing for how many years those keep their battery capacity. We're still rocking the old E-Series and I don't want to upgrade and lose their vibrating power.
I just unscrew mine after each use which takes a fraction of a second and keeps the insides mold free.
