Its crazy that PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, all never had stick drift. I played the crap out of those too and never had an issue. Why all of a sudden all of these newer controllers have issues with stick drift?

Just an FYI to anyone because I think it's an EASY thing to miss.... 8BitDo sucks at naming controllers. They probably internally have some "logic" that dictates what makes this "ultimate" but I think *MANY MANY* folks are going to assume the wrong things. Ultimate does NOT mean hall effect sticks let alone triggers. I'm not saying it's a bad deal or something but when you can get a 8Bitdo Wireless 2c which comes with a 2.4ghz dongle, bluetooth, AND wired support while also including hall effect sticks and trigggers, this is simply not a deal. $10 dollars more gets you a much better overall device, I really think they intentionally called this an "ultimate" controller because they think people are going to assume it comes with most of the "niceties" of the true ultimate controllers that list for 4x as much.

Dreamcast never had this issue because SEGA solved this problem in 1998 when they used hall effect sensors.

I have used this exact controller on PC for approximately a year and never had a problem with drift. That said, I haven't dropped it and don't misuse it.

100% happened to N64, PS1/2 and XBox360 controllers. I only buy 1st party controllers and have had it on all of them.

I've had this controller for a while now. I've never had any functional issues with it whatsoever, and it's survived the abuse of hundreds of hours of Elden Ring, Monster Hunter Rise, dozens of JRPGs, and I'm still using it today as my main controller today. The D-pad in particular isn't clicky, but there is a certain satisfying snap to it I really like. The buttons on the back of the controllers are perfectly designed, being low profile and placed in the perfect spot, meaning I've never accidently hit them when I didn't mean to.

My main issue with it is the L1 and R1 bumpers and the grips not being angled out enough. While the grip angle isn't too much of a problem, the bumper buttons need pressure applied from the center, if you press the button at the corner of the bumper, it feels awkward and rubbery. The bumper issue seems to be resolved in the new 2C model, but the extra buttons were removed from the back of the controller, which is one of my favorite features. The grip texturing is also comfortable and helps with sweaty hands like mine, but they do tend to get a bit nasty while debris and skin particles gathers up in this and are a pain to clean.

TL;DR: Been using controllers since PS1 days. You can hardly go wrong with this thing for the price it's going for.

I have the wireless Ultimate 2.4gz with Hall Effect sticks. Been using it for a year or so and nothing in terms of drift, but I also have a regular old Xbox controller that I've had for almost five years with zero drift. In fact, I've never had drift on any controller.
Perhaps it's the fact that don't play high-intensity shooters so there's far less stress on the sticks? Or maybe I'm just lucky, IDK.
I will say the only gripe I have about the wireless one is that it's pretty light. I prefer a heftier controller, but IMO 8Bitdo is probably the best bang for your buck in the controller space at the moment.

Worst still the N64 sticks that basically just dropped with gravity after decent use. PS2 controllers were always sloppy. Back then you bought a new controller when the old one didn't work anymore...or made sure that was the one your little brother used Wink These days someone is measuring "drift" down to single digit DPI with specialized software so they can write 8,000 word reddit flame posts about what was once considered within manufacturing tolerances.
