Not on the market myself, but intrigued by the BIC PL-300 after reading this review

I was looking at the Elac as it appears to be the best deal/performance, but it's configured using Bluetooth via an app (no controls on the sub)... There is no telling when the app will be unsupported (ie. will you be unable to configure the sub in 5 years if the model is discontinued?). Seems like a terrible future proofed product.

update: appears the Klipsch model has app connectivity too, but it has on board controls as well, which is exactly what you want.

I initially though the MSRP was fake/inflated on the Elac but Crutchfield and Adorama are selling it for $899. What makes it worth the high price? For that kind of money I'd expect a sub to go lower than 25Hz.

Read on reddit that is a overprice piece of S. Cant even keep up with a svs sb1000. Software js bad and buggy.

Elac is traditionally a very high end brand. Like upto $20k per floor speaker expensive... But they have some cheaper stuff too... The sub generally gets great reviews, but I won't be buying one.

I've never seen a bigger gap of RMS (350w) and peak watts(1400). Curious what it sounds like.

Actually if you look closer the Klipsch subwoofer just as volume control for three different inputs. What's crazy is I read up that the volume knob just spins indefinitely so you'd never know where you are at. For phase and crossover there are no adjustments on the back of it

I have the Elac Sub1010 - a smaller model - and it hits quite low, despite what the spec sheet says. Additionally, it is very controlled and precise. And it isn't nearly as finicky about placement as the other subs I have. Really pretty impressive. My guess is that the Sub3030 is in the same category. I'd try it in a heartbeat.

Assuming those are legit figures, it probably indicates that it has larger (Joules) DC link capacitor bank.

I picked up the ELAC 3030 on the last deal. I couldn't get it to connect to my phone until I disconnected the cable going to my integrated amp. After that, it synced right up.
I read some reviews regarding the build quality of the enclosure and they weren't too positive. I haven't turned mine up loud enough to test for that but so far I think it sounds great. At the lower levels I was listening with, the lower bass notes really throb. If there are any rattles with the cabinet, I'll just open it up and try to reinforce it somehow.
Also, the sub cabinet is bigger than the pics suggest. Its quite large.

damn that ELAC is 500watt RMS for $279. Feels like I should gamble on it.

But WTF digital control. That is weak. Anyone here pick it up? Does it sound good? I imagine that kind of power it should really feel the bass

I took a gamble on it. I don't like that it's only controllable by app, because it becomes a giant paperweight if the company goes under or stops supporting it. But, Elac has been around for 100 years. They invented the moving magnet phono cartridge that most record players use to this day. I don't think they're going anywhere any time soon.

I had some initial trouble setting it up. It came with a thumb drive, and instructions to use it to install the latest firmware before setting up the sub. I did as instructed, and the app couldn't find the sub. I tried with two different phones. So I did a factory reset using the reset button on back, ran setup again, and it worked perfectly.

Sound-wise, it's great. Deep, solid, articulate bass. I think it's more of a music sub than something like my SVS, which hits the deeper, sub-bass notes in action and sci-fi movies better, but can border on boomy for dense, bass heavy music. It's nice having both.

I actually really like the app. After the initial setup difficulties, it's opened quickly every time I've used it. It has an auto tuning/room correction using the mic your phone, and I love being able to adjust and play with the crossover, EQ, and level on the fly from my listening position. I wish it had manual controls as a backup. But at this price, it's worth the risk IMO.

Thank you for your reply.

Now you said you have an SVS, so I'm assuming that kind of makes you a (no offense) subwoofer snob lol. So standards are high. Now, if you can imagine you never had your SVS sub, and a casual person who doesnt have a hometheater setup in your house and you heard this ELAC sub, would you be blown away? I would say i listen to music with loud thumping bass (pop, hip hop) but also like to watch equally movies that have powerful soundtracks. For an entry level sub at this price range and this much RMS power, would it make a noob think this is a much more expensive sub than it really is?

You're welcome.

Definitely impressed, maybe blown away if you've never heard a really good sub before. I have it in a basement room that's a little over 12' x 15'. I ran a couple of bass test tracks, Bass Mekanik, etc. on it. It hit and sustained all of the lows without trouble, rattling the walls of my house.

I do think you have to temper your expectations somewhat because the $800 price tag is a joke. That gets you into brands like Hsu Research, REL, and the higher end SVS subs. (Mine is an entry-level PB1000.) This sub can't hang with those. But, I can't imagine finding anything that can for under $300. The only thing close I know of in this price range is the RSL Speedwoofer 10E. It's probably a better sub in terms of hardware, but it doesn't have the room correction software the Elac does, which I really like.

Here's a professional review that will provide more technical information than I can: https://darko.audio/2021/04/my-fi...c-sub3030/
