There is nothing better at the 2K price point then this, it still puts out a great picture and has very good contrast.... Next step up your going to laser and more $$$. Many, many people have really loved there 5050's so, at Close to $2,000 for a new one, it's a good price. If this is your budget your not going to go wrong w/ the PQ of this. also, looks like all other's are selling it at $2,300 right now but NFM seems to be the lowest by $150.

https://ietlamps.com/ i have used this place and the bulbs seems to work fine.
Honestly, I was expecting the replacement bulbs to be at least 2-3x more expensive. $99 is not that bad [ietlamps.com]. Unless they charge a ridiculous amount for shipping?

It's hard to beat this projector for this price point. Even more so if you like gaming. This projector has a very solid response rate.

The BenQ is certainly tempting, but you can imagine that there's a reason the Epson is over $2k and the BenQ is under $1k. I've looked at both, haven't yet pulled the trigger on either.

EDIT: Clarification... the BenQ 3550/3560 is between $800/1000 for refurb and closer to $1700 for new (from what I can see).

So, this won't ship to Michigan? I see that they ship to all states except Alaska, Hawaii, and California, but maybe certain items don't ship elsewhere? Is anyone else getting messages that this is outside their shipping area?

Pretty pathetic that there's nothing better at this price point considering it's over 5 years old.

A worthy comparison would be with the benq ht5550, although ub5050 is still better

Fantastic projector for its price. Im ready to upgrade mine to the NZ8 though.
Why? I'm on a BenQ HT1075 (1080p) and like it, but have equipment that can drive 4k now, so looking for upgrade options.

Edit: Looks like the price on the NZ8 is in the $10k-16k range, which is significantly outside my budget. Smilie

How is the contrast? Do you get close to inky blacks?
People who review projectors say the JVC projectors have "inky" blacks compared to most of the rest of the competition. That said, my family and I love the 5040. I have people over regularly, and the "wow" factor is consistent. I got my 5040 for around $1200 certified refurbished from the Epson refurbished store. Best price/performance I've ever spent on a display (multiple DLP, plasma, OLED over the years). The 5040 is currently $1500 on the refurbished store.

The key is having a light-controlled room (mine is in a basement room with no windows), paying attention to calibration (I leveraged recommended settings from AVSForum), and having a good source (I mainly watch 4k blu rays from a Panasonic 4k blu ray player).

Which Panasonic player do you have? There are various levels of players (UB-150 for around $150; UB-820 for around $400; some other one around $900), but it doesn't seem to me that I'd need more than the basic one. We have an Xbox Series X, I just don't know if I'd be causing excess wear on the drive by using it as a movie player.

Highly recommend at least the UB-420 if you have a projector. It does dynamic tone mapping that can help compensate for the lack of light output from a projector when watching HDR content.

If you have a Dolby vision capable display, I recommend at least the UB-820 since it supports Dolby vision.

I also have the 5040 and I get compliments on the quality all the time. I have no complaints about contrast or blacks. I have a blacked out basement theater and 110" screen. It has to be one of my favorite TV/projector purchases ever. To do better would mean stepping up big time in price.
You can get 100" TVs for this price range now. Not a large drop in size for you and will be much better picture quality.

Projectors mid to high end projectors do not make sense if not 130"+ now, and the problem is most projectors are not nearly bright enough for a good 150" image anyway.
