ASUS - ROG Ally X 7" 120Hz FHD 1080p Gaming Handheld - AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme Processor - 24GB with 1TB SSD

I know, $699 still isn't a steal but it's the first time its been on sale as far as I can see and $100 off is nothing to sneeze at if you were considering it.

The 80 WHR battery on this is really nice and can get you some solid gaming time but improvements on the efficiency from in the next chips is really going to bring out the full capabilities of such a large battery. I'm excited for 2025.

If we can get to a point where he can play 4-5 hours uninterrupted on AAA games, that's when it will be worth it to buy my next device which is probably still 2-3 years away.

Personally I will hold for either Z2E or Intel Ultra 2, both of which are looking extremely interesting. Especially with more competition in the space, there might be better deals

Yeah at this point, might as well. However this device is wonderful. The next iteration should be amazing.

For this price, yeah I'd wait.

I'm hoping for a great discount on the white one. Around $400-450 and I'd jump on it.

I agree, I just sold my OG Ally Z1E with2tb for $500 and I'm gonna just wait until the next lineup with the new chips drops. All these new devices are just iterant improvements on battery, basically they're just stuffing a bigger battery in them. The next gen should see double digit efficiancy improvements on top of performance increase. Also they have had several years to really fine tune everything at this point so I really think the next Ally is going to be the one to buy. I'm hoping Windows drops a handheld mode for windows 11 in the mean time as well and there's enough time for asus to incorporate it before the next release, not holding my breath for that one though.

Yes, Lunar Lake can do at 15 watts what it takes Z1 Extreme 30 watts to do. MSI Claw 8 AI+ delayed until who-knows-when next year though. I think 4-5 hours battery will be possible on most all AAA games medium settings 1080p, FSR enabled with 30fps. Anything less than the most demanding new games will perform much better.

I had both rog ally and legion go, even though on paper former has lesser spec (lower res, smaller screen, not joy-con style controller), the form factor and overall weight distribution is a lot better
i can see the market in these especially it does so well in emulation up to nintendo switch
can't wait for the next iteration with the more efficient chips

I'm not a kid so why would I need a portable gaming device? I can't imagine any scenario where an adult with a full time job and a wife/girlfriend needs a portable gaming device.
People with kids and a busy life benefit most from handheld gaming devices. They're amazing for couch gaming or when you're on a business trip and stuck in a hotel/airplane.
