Great book, read it back in high school (early 2000's). One might say it could be slightly edited and re-released as "2024". One of the more prophetic reads out there... right up with Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" from 1932.
From a Slickdeals perspective, might as well grab it from the local library.

Well said. Nice observation of the times that we live in.
Or another example, the ministry of truth decided only their narrative was to be believed, so they made sure the opposing sides voices were muted. Funny thing is,it turned out that the ministry of truth was the one telling the lies.

While it isn't a literary masterpiece, I'll add the movie Idiocracy to the list with 1984, Brave New World, Fahrenheit 451, the Handmaid's Tale, or even Ayn Rands "Atlas Shrugged". Then fast foward to how it all ends with Cormac McCarthy's "The Road".

went to check out 'the road' based on your comment and looks like a good read. also had a coupon option which brought it down to 5.99 for me so went ahead and bought. thanks
This is probably my favorite book. I used to buy extra copies at thrift stores (when used books were under a quarter) just to hand out to those who never read it.
