I upgraded from 2700x to 5900x, if you have the prism cooler from 2700x, it'll suffice, mostly. Keep in mind that 5800x and 5900x run hotter than 2700x. I had to swap out the cooler due to it constantly running at higher speed to cool my 5900x and can get pretty loud. I'd recommend trying it out with your cooler first, worst case is shelling out another $30-40 for a more efficient cooler later.
I am still on a Zen 5 3600 using a 2070 Super. Love it but do want to upgrade in thee next 4-5 months and get a 4070 Super and CPU. Was thinking of a 5700X3D and sticking with AM4 because honestly it is not a big deal to me

This cpu a much better deal than the 5700X3D. Money no big deal, I mean spending $200 vs $150 on CPU does not bother me one bit

If I'm running a 3700x, would this be enough of an upgrade to justify at this price?

You better have a good AIO and install Ryzen Master to keep the temps in check.
Why? I have a 5900x that cools just fine with air.

No, not really. I mean it's an upgrade, but not worth it coming from the 3700x. If you're a gamer, look at the 5700x3d, which is a WILD upgrade over the 3700x for gaming. if you're not a gamer and care about MT, look at the 5900x or 5950x, which will be absurd upgrades in multi threaded performance.
But as someone who came from the 3700x to the 5700x(prior to the 5700x3d existing, and when the 5800x3d was still like $400+), I wish I had known about the coming existence of the 5700x3d, because I would have held off and went with that instead.

Thanks in that case I'll wait for 5700x3d or 5900x. I heard you have to undervolt these chips to run cooler . Might wait for new platform build.
Newegg has the 5700X3D on sale for $195 after promocode and it comes with 32gb of Corsair LPX RAM for free. Could sell the RAM to get some money back. Amazon also has the 5700X3D for $182 for Prime members.

19% uptick in performance 3700x to 5800X, with the increased power draw of the 5800X (105W vs 65W).

You may need a higher capacity cooler that matches the tdp of 5800x.

Only if gaming is your focus and have a gpu being bottlenecked by the 3700x

Buy the Thermalright Peerless Assassin, Phantom Spirit, or Frost Commander etc. They're like 25-30 for some of the best bang for buck dual tower coolers that will handle this 5800x. And if you keep the mounting hardware, it can also be used if you upgrade to AM5 as well. Air Coolers last.

Well, it is showing to me at $165.99 for some reason, I don't see a coupon or another form of discount anywhere here or at amazon, what am I missing?
