Go rubber don't go foam you will wreck your floor. Also rubber is cheaper and will last longer.

I've got 10 of these in my garage gym, and love them:

The ones from Home Depot are cut very uniformly, don't hardly smell, are delivered to your door for free, and are 50 pounds which is manageable to move around by yourself.

Or you could go with Stall Mats, which are cheaper. But they are larger, weight about 100 pounds, are hard and awkward to move around yourself, and will need a pickup truck to get them (and probably a helper).

I wouldn't got with those "puzzle" type of foam mats. Go with 3/4 inch rubber mat flooring. Also, with 3/4 rubber mat, you can integrate in 3/4 plywood for platforms and such, and the mat and plywood will all be the same level without any bumps or transitions.
