Good price for this saw and the convenience of being able to order it online, but also maybe worth checking your local Lowes to see if any still have them on clearance. Select Lowes had these in-store only on clearance for $329 randomly over the past year or so and also the much bigger 545 Mark II for $383 (I went for that one).
Gotta love all the Sithl fanbois that had to post in here. I have an MS250, when it runs well, its a great saw. But its a MFer to start compared to an Echo or Husky, as is getting parts for them. Yes, if you are still stuck in 1985 and like to go to your local dealer and wait for them to order a part for you, parts support is great. If you want to order parts online and have them show up in a day or two, Stihl is not for you, they do not allow any OEM parts to be sold online.
I'm a Stihl Fan Boi, but a MS250 is a smaller motor
.
This saw here is more equivalent to the Farm Boss MS-271 that is around $500.
With that said buying a Stihl from a good dealer and having customer service that stands behind their saws is better than Husky's warranty service.
I gave my Husky away. Constant air leaks, poor tuning, plastic engine case, and a weak powerband. While Husky has a larger motor, the Stihl will outperform it in actual work. (unless you really lean out the Husky)
Box stock my 251 has been through about 50 cords without any real work to it. I wanted to like the Husky, it just wasn't it, I demoed an Echo that was about the same size as the Husky and it destroyed both saws in actual work. (590 timberwolf I think)
I need a larger saw, I know, the 400 series Stihl saws would do work, I just keep beating the 250 in hopes to justify a new purchase. Cant do it. Next saw will likely be the MS271/291.
I'd never buy a husky again. I'll be a Equipment Expo in Louisville next week and will try them again, maybe they've changed.
I'm in Central Florida and expect to have tons of down trees from Milton. I need a good chainsaw but am curious if there are better options than this around the same price point?
This is what?...a 50 or 55cc saw? That's a beast. It's should tear through anything. I have a Husqvarna 445 which is a 45 cc saw and it does anything I ask. 45 cc has been my sweet spot since my oldest stihl 026.
powerful enough and not too heavy. this should be a bit heavy but is a true work horse
For the same price, the Stihl MS250 is a better saw. Bar is smaller but the saw will perform like a true powerhouse.
Stihl 271 Farm Boss would be more comparable to 450/455 Ranchers. The MS250 is an all around great little saw, but not exactly in the same category as the 271 Farm Boss or Husky Rancher, in terms of size & power.
These are all great mid-range saws that can meet the needs of most homeowners, but important to understand the differences before buying.

Based on the ship dates that are currently showing for these, you may be looking at downed trees for a while after the storm before your chainsaw comes in. I was weighing my options between Echo and Husqvarna and decided to go with Echo. The current Husky saws that are in the consumer level aren't made like they used to be. Their pro level saws are still great products, but pricey. Echo's saws have a 5 year warranty vs. 2 years for Husqvarna. I'm sure HD and Lowe's will shift inventory down your way as quick as possible after the storm passes. I'm in the Augusta, GA area and we basically had they eye of Helene pass over us. The nearest Lowe's to me got about 100 of this same model saw from Husqvarna, and the HD had about 100 of the Echo 4010 and over 250 of the 3510 after the storm.

I have a ms-250 and then got a MS-391 a few years ago. I run the 25inch bar and it's a dream. Handles everything I need it too. I don't have the guts to pull the trigger on some of those Chinese Magnum Clones, but that would be a fun experiment.
i am just a home owner in rural MN on an acreage. I've been there for 27 years and have used a fair share of saws through the years, mainly Husqvarna, Stihl, and Echo, and find that they work pretty comparably for the jobs that I do. Just get the one that is the right size for your job and you probably won't go wrong. Now if you are living in alaska and burning through cords and cords of wood to stay alive, or your cutting lumber for living, then the little differences might be substantial.
that being said, this is a good deal for a very powerful saw. but it's heavy. might suggest carrying one around for a few minutes before you buy.
overall suggestion for someone who will be cutting both small and fairly large trees occasionally, Echo cs-590 timberwolf that a couple others have mentioned.

I know the ratings and engine size would show the husky to perform better, but in actual use, i found that Stihl punches way above its weight. If I was to place a bet, I'd bet the MS251 would outperform the 450 rancher and the 271 would blow it out of the water. Watch project farms chainsaw video.
