if you're car camping at a developed spot, just buy whatever tent is on sale at wal-mart at the time

These tents are for people who are hiking into the back country, and their lives depend on them

You can just walk 5 feet to you car then buy another tent for $30 if something goes wrong.
More like lighter weight tents.

I was really disappointed with MSR a few years ago. Had my older hubba hubba start falling apart despite being taken care of and stored appropriately. It's just an age thing with the lightweight tents, the waterproof coating starts flaking off. They basically offered me 20% off the price of a new one.

I have a much cheaper, older alps mountaineering that when I called about a tear in the rain fly, all I did was paying shipping and they sent out a new one.
It depends on what you are doing. If you are in average temps, low winds, and no rain/snow go for the cheap tent. If it will be very hot then find a tent with a lot of mesh when the fly is off. If it will rain/snow find a tent that is seam sealed and has a fly that goes to near ground level. If it will be really windy get a higher quality tent with more poles and/or tie down points to prevent the tent from being blown flat with you in it. Generally a tent with all these features is about $200-350 full price for a 2-person and sometimes can be had for under $100.

I meant a tent that'll interface with a car. I'm planning on camping in the snow so it's gonna need some degree of performance.

Years back the hubba was the goto backpacking tent but for a bit now they've had faulty poles and people have moved onto Nemo & Big Agnes due to the issue and bad customer support.

I have an older hubba hubba (got it in 2018), it's still fantastic. I have heard bad stuff about versions after it.

I have an MSR Fury 2. Anybody know if any of the footprints fit the tent?

every year walmart clearances out their tents. they carry this decathalon brand and its $100 tent that has gone to around $20 in some locations. It's pretty nice at that price. for the person who's going to say 'but its not quality, not 4 season, blah blah blah' -- the prompt was car camping and like this guy said, get in your car 5 feet away and 'survive'

I got 5 of Walmart's tent packages for $20 ish. Came with: tent, 2 chairs, table and 2 sleeping bags. Walmart guts their tent prices around this time a year. Wink

The price of hubba is alluring compared to copper spur ($100 lower). I really worry about the pole splinter issue people often mentioned. Should I return the copper spur (unused) for hubba hubba? Hope to hear some inputs! Thanks!

I wouldn't. The reviews are covered with issues on the pole splintering. This used to be the go to backpacking tent. Too bad MSR is hell bent on destroying its brand. If you want to save money and weight check out Tarptent Protrail or Notch.
