If you've got a 4k capable player (standalone, PS5, Xbox Series X, etc), you should up the budget a little and get the UHD copy that is also on sale.

I think it's on Max, but one of the many streaming services I have access too.

if this is like the set i own, be aware you use 2 discs per movie due to ?? i know the sound is all uncompressed idk if the video was ... don't think so but i know watching with my brother he kinda liked it as the spots they pause in the film actually are good halfway spots to act like an intermission for snacks and stuff
I'm debating about getting the 4k at some point... but having owned the dvd versions then the extended blu ray set its just kinda?? like how many times do i need to rebuy this set of films? granted it is probably the best trilogy ever made imho and i don't think it will ever be replicated in the current age of cgi

Overall it's mixed to positive feedback, but everyone agrees that the 2011 extended blurays for fellowship were messed up so they had to be fixed sooner or later.
The caveat is you really need to have an optimal setup to take advantage of it over the original BR disc.
As you mentioned the original BR disc is reference.

Moreover the 4k edition improves on the excessive green tint in the bluray version. Not sure if the remastered bluray takes care of that though.
