Anyone else spend hours and hours of their youth playing Warlords and Warlords 2? Tempted to get this just for the nostalgia factor…

Yes. On Mac, Warlords II and Prince of Persia 2 were some of the only computer games we ever purchased. Mostly console stuff otherwise.

Also yes: I played the 40-turn demo of Warlords 1 a ton on our ancient Mac. Then found the DOS binary on an abandonware site much later, it held up really well.

Despite Nintendos' best efforts, the roms and emulators are easy to find for free.

How easy are these games to play without having a printed manual right there to reference? I feel like a lot of games of this type and from this era really required you to be able to look at a manual while you learned the game mechanics. I realize they all probably come with .pdf manuals at least, but do any of them lend themselves to 'pick up and play' type gameplay where you can just figure them out as you go without a manual?

For anyone that loved the Ultima series, check out Phantasie if you never did. It is an all time favorite of mine.

We could get pretty far on that demo, it was cool like an early speedrun
