I've flown them twice. While it's true that they charge you for everything, it's a muchhhh different experience than other similar US budget airline carriers. The customer service is amazing and prices for food/drinks were very cheap (e.g Asahi was less than $2 USD). Japanese airlines (even a budget airline) are on another level.
Everything about Japan is amazing compared to sue-happy America without innovation.

Japan is amazing, but I think you're being a bit hyperbolic about the US lacking innovation. Japan has issues of its own, however less visible to a tourist. Smilie

Every place has problems. As a tourist, you don't really ever have to deal with complicated systems like healthcare or employment or what have you. Trade offs of living in America for sure

This is cheaper than the greyhound. Someone tell Japan to brace for some high class homeless people.

Agreed. I flown this airline the first time and Delta the second time to Tokyo. This airline was more comfortable, with seats reclining further than the budget Delta seats, and service/food/drink was all higher quality.

Who votes for this? Almost $700 without luggage could be called a deal?

Historically Houston to Tokyo direct has been $1200 on sale, $1500-1800 regular. Even $900 with luggage and a meal I'd say it's a good deal for flying direct.

Up until Zip Air announced their new leg there was only 1 carrier that did direct flights out of Houston and that's United. Their fare is typically $1350 round trip. You do get 2 checked bags of luggage, a carry on, IFE and meals for that price but you pay for wifi.

On Zip Air you'd pay for the airfare $666 and add their value package which lets you pick a seat, add a meal and 1 checked bag (do you really need 2?) for $100 each way. For almost a $500 savings for a direct flight round trip I'd say that's a pretty slick deal.

It's owned by JAL, perfectly fine airline. It really is budget though. The only thing you get is 15lb/7kg

It looks like most people with comments here believe that Zipair is somehow lacking compared to their conventional "non-budget" US airline of choice. Please, understand that this here is a BETTER fly and experience, also it's direct! If anything, this should be more expensive than most, especially out of IAH. Don't be afraid of their commercial model, in the end it's still way cheaper and everything is done right. The luggage weight is 30kg compared to standard 23kg elsewhere, that here already shows you how this airline treats passengers differently.
