Really? I heard AMD would only focus on mid- and low-end GPUs in the next generation. Have you heard otherwise?
The initial 5080 is said to launch with 16gb vram, which nvidia is trying once again to sell everyone on -70 class specs with -80 class pricing. Pretty sure AMD will be competing with this scaled down "5080".

$750 for a card that can keep up with a 4090 in some instances for less than half the price is pretty amazing deal

I'm still fairly noob when it comes to GPUs, but what instances are you referring to that this card can keep up with the 4090? I've been gathering info and referencing link: https://www.tomshardware.com/revi...,4388.html

It's very game specific best advice I think would be to look at the games you're playing or plan to play and see how they benchmark with these cards . But I'll say the value of 750 for what you get is pretty good

Future price drops aside, there is nothing from NVIDIA that can match the performance of this card at this price.

As I understand, arguably the top model of the 7900 XTX is the Sapphire Nitro. This is the other Sapphire model, the not quite as good Sapphire Pulse, but $250 cheaper.

There's a good case for buying this - except for the 'what's coming' question, about new models and discounts.

I'm a fan of Sapphire and still have an RX590 Sapphire Nitro+ running strong, but I do think that the cooler design and thermal pads on the XFX Magnetic Air provides the best cooling and longevity possible. 3 year warranty, and the improved cooler is only available on 7800xt, 7900 GRE, and 7900xt. I don't care about the removable fans, but the cooler design and component quality is what makes it such a great option. (The XFX Merc or Qick versions are also top tier with the Saphire, but the Magnetic Air is the newest refresh and most premium cooler)

In all fairness, being this close to next-gen cards being released early 2025, I wouldn't recommend purchasing top-end. Wait a little longer, or settle for a 7700 xt, 7800xt, or even 4060ti. Jumping from 7800XT at $450 to $500 up to $750 or $800 for the next step up is a lot of money.

Meh, involves AFFIRM and soft pulls just for some minimal savings on a GPU. XFX MERC310 7900 XTX was $788 on Amazon yesterday and I think that would be the type of deal we will start to see more often.
I've used affirm for years and for dozens of transactions - I don't remember one time seeing my credit get dinged or even shown that they pulled my credit.

I'm waiting for the 8xxx-series at this point. The rumors are that it will be a much better value. I know if I pay $500+ for a graphics card then could have 30% more performance for the same price in January, I'll be kicking myself.
After the pricing the current gen launched at, and it has taken 2 years before they finally started dropping prices, you really think the 8000 series is going to launch at a substantially better price to performance ratio?
I think it's quite obvious at this point that AMD and Nvidia are working together to price fix the market and drive up the overall prices for GPUs.

Did you follow the performance jump from 6000 to 7000 series AMD GPUs? There was a net negative performance difference in some benchmarks. I highly doubt you're going to see 30% for the same money.

At this price point it should be compared to the RTX 4070 Ti Super and 7900XTX will win even in a lot of ray tracing games. It definitely struggles in Cyberpunk with max ray tracing but performs really well in other games.

There's two very different 5080 that we need to differentiate: 5080 16gb and 5080 24gb. NVIDIA is only releasing the 16gb version at launch and much later we'll get the 24gb version. The 16gb version is so scaled down compared to the 5090 that it's deceitful for it to be labeled it as 5080. It's should really be their 5070ti card. They tried doing this with their 4000 release when they tried to introduce two versions of the 4080 12gb and 16gb. They had cancel the release of the 12gb version after it got trashed by all reviewers. They're trying to do this again but now they're not announcing the release of both cards at the same time. To get back on point, the 5080 16gb card should really be viewed as the 5070ti and AMD will compete at this level and will probably offer something slightly over this pont.
