is it the same laptop as this?

the specs seem the same but model #'s are not, per the listing
I only buy laptops once every 10+ years (as opposed to upgrading desktop parts more often)
Would mind holding off a few months of I can get better performance for the same price.. But if the new parts are really that much better, then we probably won't see similar pricing/performance for about a year?

We are talking about average battery life jumping from ~5h to ~10h, almost doubled (or in some extreme cases ~20h if you do all sorts of battery saving possible.) This generation is believed to compete with ARM's battery life.
CPU performance won't be much different though, just a lot less power-consuming. iGPU will be a bit stronger than AMD 780M from current gen (780M is about 1050 so I guess the new 890M will be about 1060).
For comparison, I have a laptop with 7840HS, and surfing the web on balance mode consumes ~8W, while the new gen intel CPU consumes 3-5W on average.
So the biggest upgrade comes from the insane battery life. Intel and AMD are quite comparable this gen because intel finally ditched their own fab
All of those mumbo jumbo above are from the limited testings done by reviewers and advertisements so far. The next gen is still new, and really different from previous gens, so maybe it still needs some more time for mature results. In the mean time, you can just buy 2023/2024 laptops and capitalize on that sweet extended holiday return period while waiting for more reviews of the next gen of course.
Edit: that's not to mention the new AI thingy that Microsoft is trying to push. Whether it's useful or you like it or not, it's still a new different thing I guess.

This is a good laptop for the price. Very good even. I would say though, that with Black Friday 7 weeks away, that there will be plenty of opportunities for similar deals soon enough.
I'm not thread crapping. This IS a good deal. 8845HS, 4060, 350 nits, 100% SRGB display, 2 slots of upgradable RAM, 2 M.2 slots.... that's a solid laptop for $850.

but my guess is they'll be $1500+ with only a minor discount until next fall

if i can wait 1 year, i might as well wait 2 years or more until there's this unicorn of peak performance/price that happens to be easily avail and much cheaper
or i can buy this reasonably priced one now and use it until several generations later then just pick the right time to buy
I think right before they release a new GPU IS the BEST time to buy laptops. .
