LN1301 is wifi 6, this one is wifi 5. $15 for pack of 2 is very good deal. VLP0102-NP currently sell for $35 in Amazon.

My $15 Linksys has been running for a month straight with stock firmware. No problems.

The MX10600 is 2.2ghz with 1gb ram tri-band:
It has 2 Wifi 5 (2.4ghz and 5ghz 2) and 1 WIFI 6 (5ghz 1) bands

The MX8000 is 1.4 ghz with 1gb ram tri-band:
It has 1 Wifi 5 band (2.4ghz) and 2 wifi 6 (5ghz 1 & 2) bands

The MX10600 is made up of 2 MX5300 nodes.
the MX8000 is made up of 2 MX4000 nodes.

The MX4000 nodes are comparable to the LN130 (AX4200/AX4300) except the MX4000 is 200mbps slower on one of the 5ghz bands. Same specs otherwise other than ram. (LN1301 has 2gb ram instead of one since it was purpose built for a Fortinet security app to be running on it before they scrapped the idea and liquidated them).

The MX10600 would be faster if you use a wired backhaul as it only has 1 wifi 6 5ghz band.

The MX8000 will be faster if you use wireless backhaul only as it has 2 5ghz wifi 6 bands.

I know right? LOL could use 1 more...
I have 3 that I have not set up yet. I loaded DDWRT onto one, and can't get it to work, so the other 2 are sitting in the box still till I get it figured out.
Maybe I just need to get the 2 set up on the stock firmware for now (wasn't there a thread here somewhere on how to get the LN1301 working as a mesh?).

Anyone know if all of these routers come with stripped down firmware version with usb disabled ,mx8000 in particular? I have two LN1301 running perfectly fine in mesh setup and the only reason to replace them is to see if mx8000 have full blown firmware with usb enabled and possible future updates ..

The price reduced from $79.99->69.99. Use code 'LINKSYSFIVE' at checkout for an extra $5 discount, so %64.99. Amazon Prime have free shipment.

Never buy a linksys, I have a handful and bad modem and routers still laying around the house. They just slow, outdated and keep disconnecting every once in a while. Netgear, asus, tp-link are far better linksys.
Did you crawl out of a time capsule to make this statement. "Netgear is far better," lol

I don't see why not, but will let you know for sure once they arrive.

According to the review linked to by OP, you must use the Linksys app with a Linksys account to do the initial setup. After that, you can use the web interface to manage it. But the fact that you cannot do the initial setup without the app is rather concerning, IMO.

On the other hand, if you can get openwrt or dd-wrt on these, you should be good to go.

Edit: Apparently, you can bypass the app requirement from the web interface.

Basically it is 3 pack of AX5300, so it is $21.67 each and it is close to the price of LN1301 (MX4200).

Performance comparison:

It's not a 3 pack of AX5300.
The 2 satellites don't have the same hardware/ports as the main router.

Yes. It need a Linksys cloud account for setup. It is the tricky thing that I don't like as well.

I guess ymmv. If you want some cheap nodes to play with, try custom firmware, lab setup, etc. might be a decent option. But wouldn't rely on it for your everyday "daily driver" setup. I've since switched to the tplink omada line. It's not perfect but I'm pretty happy with the setup and cost/value for the features.
I've got 3x LN1301 running stock until OpenWRT is official. Been rock solid for over a month. 4x PCs, 3x streamers, 1 Plex server, a couple of smart devices (the others are all ZigBee or ZWave with SmartThings). So yeah, YMMV, but some folks are very happy with their $15 Linksys routers.

Yea it's super easy on the stock firmware for the ln1301

1-Setup your Main router completely. 192.168.1.1 is the default addy. If you want to use these Linksys mesh routers in bridge mode set it in the ipv4 drop down under the connectivity menu on the left of the main menu before adding the child nodes.

2-Plug your child node using the wan port to the main router's lan port, wait for a solid purple light on the child node before proceeding

3-Log into your main router web admin.

4-Click on CA at the bottom right.

5-Click on Connectivity and CA Router setup.

6-Click on both Add Wired and Add Wireless nodes buttons. Wait for the Add wireless button to re-enable.

7-Now the child node light should start flashing purple and turn into a mesh mode when it turns blue.

8-Click Done adding Child Nodes and then Apply.

9- Power off child node and move child node to desired location. If you are using wired backhaul use lan port 3 on child node (not WAN port)

10-Repeat process for any other child nodes you need to set up.

11-Disabled client and node steering in connectivity menu. They just cause problems and impact performance.

11-Once complete you can use the Linksys mobile app to confirm if your mesh is setup and using wireless or wired backhaul in the app and change the names of the nodes based on the room you placed them in so you can locate it easily if one goes offline.

12-In the app restart the whole network so you can test that it reconverges all nodes automatically and double check that the nodes came online and connected automatically.

Pro tip: if using in bridge mode set a static IP for the parent and child nodes to make it easy to access the Linksys management interface and minimize chances of any issues.

For instance my glinet router is my main router at 192.168.8.1

I set static addresses for Linksys parent node to 192.168.8.2

Child node 1 as 192.168.8.3
Child node 2 as 192.168.8.4
Child node 3 as 192.168.8.5
Child node 4 as 192.168.8.6
Etc…
