All carrier sold versions (128GB) are in Caramel Latte color, and can be purchased cheaper, but if you like the Scarlet Wave color and/or want the 256GB storage then buy the unlocked version.

What I like about this phone:

6.7 inch 120Hz pOLED screen with slim bezels
8GB RAM (with RAM Boost - although I'd turn this off [androidcentral.com])
5000mAh battery w/30W wired charging (charger not included) & 15W wireless charging
Dual stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos tuning
Expandable microSD card slot (up to 2TB)
NFC for contactless payment
In-screen fingerprint reader
Passive stylus (no palm rejection however)
3.5mm headphone jack (wired headphone also acts as antenna for FM radio)
Supports eSIM (in addition to physical SIM) and Wi-Fi calling on supported carriers

Some negatives:

Only one major Android update and 3 years of security patches
Midrange processor (adequate for casual gaming)
USB-C out lacks MHL support [mhltech.org] (although wireless casting is available via Moto Smart Connect)
I concur! Too many are enticed to overpay for unneeded processor specs (what % of people play demanding games on a phone?). I began with a propritory iPhone, moved up to android (Samsung S3, & others), & was disappointed with the fragility of my S8 (Sim reader died, then the screen got green blotches & died, along with sim-card errors on its Samsung replacement). I next bought the S21 Ultra flagship. Its battery life quickly went from mediocre to terrible, the same sim- card reader errors began & worsened, & then the screen died (was quoted $350 just to replace screen). I nought a 2022 Motorola Edge & am still amazed at its superior battery life. I spend 8-12 hours/day watching/listening to Independent & foreign media, listening to music & podcasts, etc, & do not lack any performance or regrets over the overpriced 'flagship' hyped phones I've previously owned. Buy what you wish, but few will use & benefit from the 'spec-focused' flagships over the next tier down, IMO.
I've really enjoyed my Motorola phones. You get a lot of value especially if you can snag deals. The updates are fine since I usually get a new phone in a year or 2. I've branched out to OnePlus, Samsung, Pixels, etc and always come back.

Spending $250 on a Motorola, with their abysmal update policies, isn't a great value. Better to wait for Black Friday and see what sort of deals or available on Samsung or Pixel devices. If you need a device immediately, Pixel 7A is available on backmarket in excellent condition for $243.

I love Motorola phones, but that's the problem, those limited updates. $249 probably isn't a bad price for this phone, but when you look at the update schedule, it doesn't sound so hot. I used to get around this by doing the deal where you could buy a one-month plan for about $40 and get the g stylus 5g for free, then let it sit in a drawer for six months, then you could unlock (I think that was metro by t-mobile, not 100% sure). I would just get one before we need it, put it aside, knowing we'll probably replace that phone a year to 1.5 after we unlock it with another $40 phone deal. But now they require a year before you can unlock, so you get that much shorter time on how long you can use the phone before the updates stop.

If there's a good deal, I may still do that hold and unlock deal, as my husband's current moto g stylus 5g stops getting security updates this summer, and if I can find something around BF, I could be unlocking it for him next November. Of course, that'll be Nov 2025, and security updates on this phone stop in June 2026, so we'd have less than a year of updates after we start actually using it. Damn. This is why I got myself a pixel 6a a couple of years ago and plan to use it as long as I can. But my husband tends to be rougher on phones, and he likes having a backup if he drops his or knowing it wasn't too pricey to begin with.

Yup. That's pretty close to average (2-3 years). Screens crack, batteries age, etc. Most people replace a flagship every 2-3 years for $1200. Or $400/year. I usually spend around $200. So I spend $100/year on my phone. Not a big deal.

I've had the 2022 and 2023 models, and their battery life is unbelievably good. I do Graphic Design and Photography, and the Moto G Stylus camera is less than stellar unfortunately. I have tried to make do with it for almost 3 years, but I finally broke down and bought a Pixel 7a a few months ago simply for the camera quality. I miss the great battery life and the huge screen, but I have to have a good camera. For anyone else that doesn't need great pictures, this phone is excellent.

If updates are important to you then don't buy Moto phones. Some of us don't care about that because we primarily use our phones to make phone calls, text, navigate, take pics, listen to music and watch videos, which aren't highly affected by updates (or lack thereof).

Depends on your priorities. For me, the higher price, curved screen, and lack of headphone jack on the Edge are deal breakers. If you don't care about those things and having a faster processor to play more demanding games is important to you, then maybe consider the Edge.

The edge isn't worth the extra money. The curved screen on the edge is an annoyance when watching media. This phone is excellent quality. Made well, performs super snappy and battery life is amazing, two days easy. It plays all modern games just not max settings (mid usually), runs all apps and has all features of a flagship for $250…no brainer.

It's basically a phone for two years (since only one android update next year), but even then…not a deal breaker since the price is soooo low. Modern phone for two years for $250 is cheap enough that if you lose or break it you won't be that upset you'll just get another one.

Using it without a case because who cares!
