Depends on your situation. Do you need another HDMI input? Want slightly more power? Does "Made in Japan" carry weight for you?

My take is that the 3800 is the "Slickdeal's darling" because it's 90-95% of the 4800 w/o the additional hundreds of dollars (they even share the same DAC and have the same Dirac functionality)!

Good old Amir. The differences between modern DACs are well below the threshold of human hearing. Test benches though can reveal some differences, plus I'm sure there are differences in the noise floor, etc., between different individual units. It's probably about the absolute last thing you should worry about while building out your system. Different speakers, subs, displays, etc., are where you should worry about individual performance, along with your room, treatments, etc. Those things will absolutely make a very noticeable difference. DAC's maybe your dog can tell the difference.

You want to use bass out LFE only if you have a capable subwoofer. The crossovers are based on the speakers' capabilities and you shouldn't set them down from what Audy suggests. You can move them up though. Seems these are some small speakers. What are they and the subs?It is typical for Audy to set the bass lean/flat but increasing the gain should help with that. Music usually doesn't have a lot of LFE content but you should get some thump from it if things are hooked up and set correctly. You typically want to use stereo mode with music. Pure direct eliminates the sub info from the mix I believe. Not that I use that. Stereo mode for stereo sources works fine and is how it was mastered after all. Some like all channer stereo though or up mixing and those modes should also work and use the sub. Not sure how you are connecting it from your computer but my trusty old computer has an 1/8" out with a Y cable to RCA that I run to an old receiver and this works fine. Could be something with your source from the computer as it seems like you are using HDMI out and who knows what sort of settings with all that. If you had a Blu-ray player you could plug that into the receiver and test it out since it is straightforward determining what is putting out surround formats and what is putting out stereo. Assuming anyone has any physical media.Anyway next time read the manual. The folks on AVS forum are helpful too but you should try to learn the basics on your own first.
I already returned it and hooked my old Onkyo back up (HDMI ofc) and it's working fine for my dual Klipsch R-12SWi.
Again, if it can't be solved with an hour of troubleshooting with the internet (plus looking at the online "manual") - then there's a problem with the system. And I'd hope that the 3800H doesn't have the same issue that the 2800H had.

I thought this issue was fixed.
there was speculation that it could be fixed with firmware, which seemed logical, but none of the affected brands nor models have done it so far.

some people are waiting to see if the upcoming Onkyo 9.2 channel TX-RZ30 has the same problem, it's noteworthy in part because of two independent sub outs and dirac live full bandwidth included... not cheap at $1200, and you'd want to buy dlbc for best results with two subs.

it could help drive these denon prices down on black friday; do you really need 4 sub outs on the x4800 for instance, with no dirac included?

It supports UP TO 4 sub outs, not that you have to have 4 subs.

Audyssey added subwoofer integration for those 4 subs at no additional cost( unlike Dirac).
It works under the same theory behind DLBC/ART.

Dirac Live nor DLBM do not have any portion of their subwoofer integration, you need to purchase DLBC to get it, IF you have the option.

That's why D/M doesn't need to include Dirac, it's not needed.

I for one am glad they don't include it, I don't want to pay for something I don't need.

Just because it's included doesn't mean you're not paying for it, nothing is free.

What is there to fix? There was a DAC change from AKM to TI after the AKM factory fire. As others mentioned, this is the same DAC used in the 3800, 4800, and the prior generation 6700. If you swear by Amir's "do not recommend", then you are losing hundreds of dollars going for a 4800 instead of a 3800 over inaudible differences!

Too late. The shortage games they played over the last few years. Switch to Sonos. While not perfect it does work great.

Are you "friends or family" of user jonathanj7608 by chance?

If so did you mean it's "impressive"?

How "impressive" is that Sonos sub, any measurements?

Who are you to judge what people deem impressive or not?

I'd rather take a sound bar or sonos than any system you set up 😭

Tell me more about your amazing SB3000 subs that sound better than anything that's been scientifically measured... let's hear it...

Late to this thread, but look up Audyssey One/Evo.
Gets you 99% or better of what the full DIRAC suite offers for the cost of the $20 Audyssey phone app. All other pieces are free.
Best my home theater has ever sounded!!

LOL judge! that's hilarious.... Hmm remind us again how you "judged" those SB3000 on whether they are "impressive" or not....Scratchhead
Oh yes I remember it was on "fact based scientifically CEA-2010 measurements", no need for personal experience!!! Facepalm

Yet you have no "judgement" on a soundbar being "impressive" with NO "fact based scientifically CEA-2010 measurements"!!! Confused3

Unless I missed those "facts", "let's see" those CEA-2010 measurements showing how "impressive" those soundbar subs are?

Right back at you! I definitely wouldn't let you set up anything for me, I would end with Klipsch subs because of some CEA-2010 measurements !!! yea no thanks! Sick

I will never need 9.4. I wonder what the highest quality 5.1 or 7.1 receiver is. Seems the focus is on number of channels rather than power and sound quality.

I agree can be very impressive & the great thing is you don't need to get a new receiver.

You only need access to the $20 Editor app which is available to many D/M models!

Makes Dirac pretty much a minute benefit especially for the $600 cost!

I run a svs through the sonos amp. I have no sonos sub.
Setup is sonos arc soundbar and sonos amp for rears and sub out to svs. I was always a avr guy until the covid scarcity price grab nonsense and hdmi 2.1 failures when lg was doing 2.1 for years.

I've become sonos. See my setup posted above. I already had the my svs pb and haven't heard the sonos sub. All that said I doubt the sonos sub can touch the svs.

Well don't let jonathan know, he has "judged" SVS subs as terrible!

Unfortunately you're not going to use that SVS to its potential especially if you use streaming content which is what a soundbar is designed for.
