It's rough. The Witcher 3 is a big departure from the first two games. I played maybe 10 hours or so of this one, and I'm sure it was great for its time, but I bailed. It didn't age great.

Loved it back then (right after playing Witcher 1), but I won't replay it in 2024. Looking forward to a remake though.

I haven't play any The Witcher games, should I start with this one? Or do I need to start with the Witcher 1? Or I can just jump to the 3 as my first game?

Same, I've tried to get into it several times over the years because of sunk cost, but I can't get into it and I've been able to go back and play games like Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

Yeah. I have no problem playing decades old games, but this one doesn't hold up.

It has characters from this, but the third game is its own story. I've never played the first game and I've only played around 10 hours of this one, and I didn't feel like I missed anything when I played 3. Some of the characters will just talk about the past a little.

I enjoyed it. It's no Witcher 3, but it was far ahead of it's time.

worth the gamble for $3 IMO.

The Witcher 2 is a great game far better than 1. I've played em all. 3 is the best.

1 is the one that reaaaally hasn't aged well. Although I still enjoyed it. 2 should be plenty enjoyable.

I recommend watching the ending scene from Witcher 1, which is awesome and leads directly into this game. Then watch the intro to this game, and you'll get the title really well and the concept.

Excellent game, worth $3 if you've got the time for a huge game with so many branching storylines that its impossible to see all the areas in one playthrough. Just watch out for those NSFW scenes.

1 and 2 are much more linear than 3, taking place in chapters that you progress through when certain main plot quests are completed. Side-quests and opportunities to affect the story are available based on what chapter you're in.

#1 suffered from inventory issues (too many crafting material types, too many trash drops, etc) and clarity with regard to quests, but #2 fixed a ton of that and I really enjoyed it. Combat has a steep learning curve at first, so don't be discouraged if you die a few times in the opening sequence.

agree with tokkie & shake-n-bake. you don't need to play 1 or 2 to get the full experience in 3. in 3, there is a lot of "historical" dialogue references, but it's more from the books than from previous games.
