As a kid in the 80s I remember the metal lunch boxes and then I think they stopped making them maybe in the 90s and they were plastic instead. I used to have Captain America / Hulk / Spider-Man metal one.

At least in my area, schools started banning metal lunchboxes a long time ago for one simple reason. "Self-defense and martial arts classes too expensive? Does your elementary school frown upon bringing bazookas and ninja swords to school? Schoolyard bullies hate this one simple trick!"
