fyi, this is not the new 4th gen thermostat.

Must be a customer of
PG&E, SCE or SDG&E

Previously if you had PGE gas you could still get the deal.

edit:sounds like you have to have PGE electric

I have smud for electric and PGE for gas and I was able to a deal a few years back but ymmv

edit, sounds like people with PGE gas only tried and doesn't work. must have PGE electric.

Pull your existing thermostat and make sure you have a common wire first...if I remember correctly its yellow.

Got the basic nest $0 two years ago through a similar program (PG&E Norcal) , glad to see the 3rd gen learning is now available at a discount. Yes they can control your thermostat during peak afternoon energy use (esp summer days when it's hot outside) but you can just as easily override it right away.
