John Deere does not make motor oil. I learned this from the channel motor oil geek. Only a handful of companies make motor oil, and they rely on a small number of additive companies.

So some oil from John Deere is bogus. At best, they might ask the oil packager for some standard additive package, but I think they are just as useless as others, like Bobcat. FWIW, I own a Bobcat and their recommendation is/was an engine oil.

Edit/update: If your Kia car called for Kia motor oil, and it was $10 per quart, would you just say, "okay"?

Now that was funny I also have a 15yr old bobcat and I run everything but bobcat stuff in it when I change fluids. Now if this John deere stuff was a buck or so I'd run that in my Husqvarna garden tractor
