vs 990pro/sn850x which one is the best
i have hands on with the 2tb version of each of these. you will not notice the difference in real world usage. samsung rma process is annoying, adata and wd are easier.
samsung on the other hand comes with their magician software if you need to copy an OS install over.
overall just buy which is cheapest unless you need magician, and if you get the samsung you will likely need to update the firmware immediately.
fwiw i'm buying a 2tb of this to make a raid 0 4tb game drive.

I'd personally avoid this drive, especially since this is only a decent price when considering how awful the current market is. The ADATA XPG GAMMIX S70 Blade uses the infamous Innogrit IG5236 "rainier" controller, and in fact back a couple of years ago was the poster child for this controller's many issues, mainly bricking itself causing people to lose all their data. Some people have also claimed the exact same bricking issues occur with the 2tb version of the s70 blade, which uses micron B47R 176L nand just like the 4tb version (assuming there haven't been any more silent revisions, which adata sometimes does): https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc..._capacity/ https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc...ssd_issue/
The ig5236 controller is infamous for bricking itself when paired with ymtc nand, random corruption issues, as well as having smart issues depending on firmware revisions. It's also well known for overheating and thermal throttling quickly, though that's more anecdotal and likely depends on exact conditions. While the pervasive bricking issues specifically seem to be primarily when paired with ymtc nand (it has been known to brick with non-ymtc nand, but far more rarely and quite possibly not the same exact issue), other issues are known to occur with nand from other brands, including micron. Regardless, either the controller itself has underlying hardware issues, or innogrit is so awful at developing firmware that even after years of the issues being mass reported they can't stop it from bricking drives.
Information about the smart issues can be found here, note it's supposedly fixed for the s70 blade 1tb in firmware version 3.2.F.66, but I'm unsure if that also applies to the 4tb version which uses different nand: https://pcpartpicker.com/forums/t...controller
Ultimately, while the price (unfortunately) can be considered acceptable due to the grievous inflation of ssd prices, I personally would not trust this drive with my data. I absolutely would not store any important data on this drive without complete redundancy, and would recommend a full backup of anything you store on it. I likewise wouldn't recommend using it as a boot drive. If you choose to roll the dice on this drive, I'd recommend using xpg's "ssd toolbox" to update the firmware immediately. In my opinion, spending an extra ~10% more to get a reliable drive from a different brand is more than worthwhile.

As discussed in my comment above, I wouldn't recommend the adata drive. The samsung 990 pro is technically a bit faster than the wd sn850x, but the difference will be entirely negligible for any real world use cases. In terms of software, samsung magician is overall superior to the western digital dashboard application, and will make migrating your data to the new drive easier if you're less technically inclined. It's important to note that while the sn850x supports tcg opal 2.01 hardware encryption, to the best of my knowledge windows bitlocker hardware encryption doesn't work with it. Therefore, if you'd be enabling bitlocker on the drive you purchase, the 990 pro is a better choice, since software bitlocker encryption leads to significant performance degradation. Otherwise, if the sn850x and 990 pro are around the same price just get the 990 pro, and if one drive is meaningfully cheaper than the other just get the cheaper one.

Can also confirm this drive series is trash with the infamous Innogrit controller. Learned the hard way with the 2TB drive back in 2021. Somehow I was able to get a full refund from Amazon almost a full year later after making an account of my misery with the NVMe to the rep since I couldn't even create an ADATA account to get warranty (their site had issues with verification emails for certain email domains). Avoid like the plague.
Didn't have issues with any other other ADATA/XPG products I've tried at least, but the S70 Blade is dogshit.
Thumbs down. ADATA has really bad customer service. And most of their drives plain just fail. Try another brand if you value your data.
Interesting "most of their drives fail" sounds like you had 1 adata drive fail and never let it go.
My experience is completely different have multiple s70 blades since they came out years ago no issues whatsoever. Heavy use on most of them. They have a good endurance rating as well.

I had good experience with ADATA customer service. My S70Blade 1TB actually died and I mailed it in and got a replacement a week later. It did die like a year after use though, so I wouldn't buy from them again.
