I went ahead and bought the 1x4 model, which might lack the support for external SATA power. Assuming I keep to three fans I'm betting that I'll be well within the typical 12W power limit for a single fan header.

Good luck!

This is just a hub, not a controller. All fans will use the same PWM signal, meaning they will all spin at the same speed.

These are so great when you run out of motherboard pins. Plug into powersupply and go.

Is there such thing as a hub that's powered by USB instead of sata?

You can get USB -> 4-pin fan plugs, including with a variable speed controller on it. However, they only support 5v output Frown

Some usb modulation exist that goes to 12v. It'll look hacky as hell tho u can technically get it all work
