I'm typing my message on this exact Chromebook. I bought it for $250 back in the summer. It has been great, though as mentioned above, a backlit keyboard would be nice.

It comes with a year of Gemini Advanced and 2 TB of storage. When I tried to activate the offer, I got a cryptic message about my account not being eligible. After a useless exchange with Google Support that took over a week, they ended by saying the device was not eligible. English comprehension ain't their strong suit! I finally figured out that it was because my Google account was part of a Google Family group. I had to disassociate the account to activate the trial.

You can re-create the Family Group after activating the trial and share the 2 TB. I saw a message that you can only do this once a year. It looks like they updated and clarified the terms of the offer to mention the problem I encountered.

Recommended. I installed their Linux support and can run Signal Desktop, Brave and Reaper in that environment.

On the question about media, the internal speakers don't get too loud, but they're fine along with the mic for Google Voice calls. The headphone jack works well with my KRK headphones, plenty of volume and clear. I can cast from Chrome, YouTube and YouTube Music to my TV with Chromecast built-in.

Brightness is fine for indoors. I lower the brightness at night. Probably 200 or 250 nits.
If you're an existing Chromebook owner, check the perks that are available to you. This showed up in mine and takes $50 off this deal in my cart:

As a device for my elderly mother-in-law, I think Chromebooks are great. I used to get calls about malicious pop-ups and error messages all the time with Windows 10. With a Chromebook, I maybe get a call every 6 months or so. Best Christmas gift we could have gotten her (to preserve my sanity).

If only there weren't so many bad reviews complaining about it not powering up without AC plugged in (despite being fully charged). This and more suggests it being of questionable quality. It's cheap for sure, but might not be worth the headache...

Lots of negative reviews with this same theme otherwise this looks great! "I too had the failure to boot without the plug being in - which apparently is a more common issue."
I bought this same tablet on eBay (refurbished item), so can confirm for others I have this issue, otherwise I really like the Chromebook. Too bad it didn't let me install Roblox from the app store for my kids. I may try purchasing at Costco to see if the unit received fixed this issue.

A recent /r/chromeos post asked about getting a "Windows Defender Security Center" pop-up asking the user to call a number on the screen πŸ˜‚

Costco website shows the price is $250 Not $200, is there a Promo Code somewhere ? and why Slickdeals mentions (Starts 11/18) ? it is live now
The literal title of the post starts with *Starts 11/18*. Try your best to comprehend what might happen next.

So please educate me. With all the productivity apps on the cloud now can a Chromebook be used for Microsoft OneDrive and all the office apps? Web browsing, office apps, Citrix, zoom, Microsoft teams meetings is all I'm concerned with.

So since its google/chrome based you can only use google programs and such on this?

Can you install Roblox for example? Just never had one so I assume these are extremely limited in what they can do. Like you cannot install Steam for example I assume too.

Excellent price if you want one now . I think the biggest draw for the chromebooks is the battery life with the price but with all the super efficient Lunar Lake /X elite chips hitting the market , I think in couple of years you can get the same efficiency/price in a Windows device with better app support.
The biggest draw for Chromebooks is that it's not a Windows device.

Fair enough. But to draw volumes like Windows it needs to have better app support. Chromebooks will exist as a niche device.

It is actually shocking to me how much people complain about 8GB of ram on this website. Have you used a computer with 8GB of ram recently? They work fine for pretty much everything. Certainly everything I'd consider "everyday computing" which is all a Chromebook could reasonably be used for.

All of that is possible on Chromebook. Office online works just like Google Docs/Sheets.
