Right? Like I can't wait to complain about standard 16GB DDR6 laptops.

Admittedly, I don't know much about chromenooks.
Does this run apps like a tablet?
I'm looking for a portable device that will run a mobile Square point of sale. I currently use a small 9" android tablet, but like the idea of a bigger screen and perhaps a bit more functionality.

yep
samsung ML series will not appear.
It used to work, until Google decided to kill Google Cloud Print.
samsung is gone. they sold their printer division to HP about 10y ago.
I have a ML-2020 working, but I had to connect it to my LAN via CUPS on my Raspberry Pi.
Quirky, but it works 90% of the time.

depends on the gmail acct you use to setup the device
my experience is that it always says
sorry you do not qualify for this offer
so if i want extra storage, i have to use one of my other less used gmail address
and then my sync and stuff is all not what i need lol
Oh interesting, thanks. That's a bummer. They could at least upgrade the current subscription and extend it to a year from that date. Oh well, wishful thinking.... Thanks for sharing.

Glad I checked slickdeals for Acer Chromebooks....was looking at a 2-3 year old (release date) certified refurbished Acer Spin 514 on ebay for about $150. For about $50 more, I'm assuming this would be a much better deal. Any comments on this chromebook vs Acer Spin 514 with AMD 3250C processor? I'm guessing this one would be much better.

why wouldn't you just get your elderly mother-in-law an iPad? Why would an elderly person need a computer?
I have an iPad Pro and while it can do a lot of things I still prefer a basic computer more for everyday life. Sometimes even something simple like filling out forms is unnecessarily incompatible or difficult on iOS.

Anyone have any recommendation on the hinges? Is it robust on the Acers? My daughter seems to destroy hinges. The last one I bought her was (what I thought) a nice Lenovo ultrachromebook but the hinges broke in less than a year.

Not really sure where any complaints would be coming for an Intel-based Chromebook equipped with 8GB of RAM? This configuration primarily called out by commenters attempting to apply Windows-standards to the ChromeOS space.

Good luck!
