I'm typing my message on this exact Chromebook. I bought it for $250 back in the summer. It has been great, though as mentioned above, a backlit keyboard would be nice.

It comes with a year of Gemini Advanced and 2 TB of storage. When I tried to activate the offer, I got a cryptic message about my account not being eligible. After a useless exchange with Google Support that took over a week, they ended by saying the device was not eligible. English comprehension ain't their strong suit! I finally figured out that it was because my Google account was part of a Google Family group. I had to disassociate the account to activate the trial.

You can re-create the Family Group after activating the trial and share the 2 TB. I saw a message that you can only do this once a year. It looks like they updated and clarified the terms of the offer to mention the problem I encountered.

Recommended. I installed their Linux support and can run Signal Desktop, Brave and Reaper in that environment.

On the question about media, the internal speakers don't get too loud, but they're fine along with the mic for Google Voice calls. The headphone jack works well with my KRK headphones, plenty of volume and clear. I can cast from Chrome, YouTube and YouTube Music to my TV with Chromecast built-in.

Brightness is fine for indoors. I lower the brightness at night. Probably 200 or 250 nits.

As a device for my elderly mother-in-law, I think Chromebooks are great. I used to get calls about malicious pop-ups and error messages all the time with Windows 10. With a Chromebook, I maybe get a call every 6 months or so. Best Christmas gift we could have gotten her (to preserve my sanity).

Does anyone know how to connect a old printer to a Chromebook via USB?
Please qualify your model.

ChromeOS has come a long way in support of direct connecting to a local printer.

I personally connect three (3) different Chromebooks via USB cable (having to use an adapter for one model) to a Canon Color imageCLASS LBP632Cdw. Of course, this wasn't always the case (and when cloud printing was the requirement/expectation I basically used only my Windows PCs for printing tasks).

Good luck!

Is "Plus" a model name, or does this qualify as a "Chromebook Plus" by Google?
Valid concern. Though this Acer model is not listed on Google's support page (see here [google.com]), this Acer does meet all the requirements for Google's specifications.

Good luck!

Anyone have any recommendation on the hinges? Is it robust on the Acers? My daughter seems to destroy hinges. The last one I bought her was (what I thought) a nice Lenovo ultrachromebook but the hinges broke in less than a year.
The 360 models may be a consideration since they often have sturdier hinge design.

Another option might be a tablet-based design depending upon your kids' keyboard usage/needs.

Good luck!

Has anyone bought it yet, with intentions to price match the sale price once the sale is live? Is this easy to do? Would you need to return the laptop when doing this, or would they simply need the receipt/online order number?

Does anyone know if the "no boot if not plugged in" issue reported by many in the Costco reviews has been fixed? With my luck I'd get one that had the issue.

This is now live. Someone might want to change the date in the title of this to 11/11/2024 because Costco changed that date from 11/18 to 11/11.

No method of entry other than typing a password is the real killer. No fingerprint no nothing. Forget it
100%. I tried switching my mom to chrome os and she hated having to type her password every time she used it. She's been using Linux (100% web browsing) without any issues for a year.

Also, no hibernate so it was dead every time she grabbed it.

Even though the quality is a bit suspect, I might get it anyway because it comes with 1 yr Google One 2TB AI Premium. I don't care for the AI stuff, but I already pay for 2TB cloud storage. Which begs the question, as per details one has to redeem that Google One offer by Jan 31, 2025. But I have a subscription paid until April already. How does Google handle this? I assume it upgrades mine to the Premium plan right away, and then do I lose 3 months (assuming I wait until Jan 31)? Does anyone know?
From my earlier experience, I've noticed that these "trial" offers don't work on Google accounts that are part of a family group, accounts that have signed up for a paid Google subscription at any time in the past or have a paid subscription currently active.

Does anyone know if the brightness resetting to max or 50% upon restart on Chrome books have been solved ? I had to return a chromebook earlier for the same reason as it was not saving brightness setting and a deal breaker on ChromeOS for me.

can a non member pay a surcharge and buy it?
If you can get a Costco member (friend) to buy a gift card for you, you can use that even though you are not a member.

Excellent price if you want one now . I think the biggest draw for the chromebooks is the battery life with the price but with all the super efficient Lunar Lake /X elite chips hitting the market , I think in couple of years you can get the same efficiency/price in a Windows device with better app support.
The n305 is as efficient as it gets. There are no Snapdragon Elite Chromebook on the market. I don't think they plan on using it for Chromebooks.

Read the reviews. This one looks like it has booting issues.
