I'm typing my message on this exact Chromebook. I bought it for $250 back in the summer. It has been great, though as mentioned above, a backlit keyboard would be nice.

It comes with a year of Gemini Advanced and 2 TB of storage. When I tried to activate the offer, I got a cryptic message about my account not being eligible. After a useless exchange with Google Support that took over a week, they ended by saying the device was not eligible. English comprehension ain't their strong suit! I finally figured out that it was because my Google account was part of a Google Family group. I had to disassociate the account to activate the trial.

You can re-create the Family Group after activating the trial and share the 2 TB. I saw a message that you can only do this once a year. It looks like they updated and clarified the terms of the offer to mention the problem I encountered.

Recommended. I installed their Linux support and can run Signal Desktop, Brave and Reaper in that environment.

On the question about media, the internal speakers don't get too loud, but they're fine along with the mic for Google Voice calls. The headphone jack works well with my KRK headphones, plenty of volume and clear. I can cast from Chrome, YouTube and YouTube Music to my TV with Chromecast built-in.

Brightness is fine for indoors. I lower the brightness at night. Probably 200 or 250 nits.

As a device for my elderly mother-in-law, I think Chromebooks are great. I used to get calls about malicious pop-ups and error messages all the time with Windows 10. With a Chromebook, I maybe get a call every 6 months or so. Best Christmas gift we could have gotten her (to preserve my sanity).

I bought an Acer Chromebook spin 514 from Costco a while back. I recall it was on sale but the tax is based on the original amount and not the discounted amount... does that still apply here? How much are you paying in tax?

This chromebook is $200 but someone says as long as you bought a Chromebook before you get a $50 discount? Can someone explain how that works? I have a Chromebook bought from Costco a while back but that was when I was added as a member. I am no longer a member. I did buy an older Chromebook before this. So does this mean I have 2 Chromebook codes or just one? That older Chromebook was bought off Amazon years ago and there are no more software updates as that laptop is way too old.

So could I have a friend who is a current costco member order it online and do this? But the laptop has to ship to their home or it could be fine? I would be paying them cash for it. The thing is how would I give them the discount code? So it would be $150 total Plus how much tax? Then another $15 in shipping so it comes to around $180 total? Or it comes to around $200 total because they do the tax on $349 and not $150?

Don't forget the added recycling fee for some. All these junk fees have me sitting on the fence...

Has anyone else not been able to use the code? When I attempt to submit the promo code on Costco's site I keep getting an invalid error message. Their customer said to reach out to Google but don't see any contact info on their perks site.

I used jojocat's link to successfully get the $50 "anniversary celebration" perks code via my old Acer 317 Chromebook I bought a few years back. I was able to use code at Costco final checkout in the Promo Code entry section. Dropped price another $50 to $149.99. Tax amt was on the $149.99. Shipping $14.99. TU OP and jojocat...Reps to both

The design of the sides of the case can make this device appear much slimmer in the photos than it is in reality. This thing is relatively thick for being a basic, mid-tier chromebook (many of which can be remarkably thin since they don't require active cooling). Instead, you're getting something in the form factor of a commodity Acer Windows laptop (or Dell Inspiron, Latitude, etc.). For some this quality is a positive as it suggests some ruggedness. Otherwise, besides the ding for those preferring backlit keys for their daily driver, there really is little to complain about here beyond a boring design considering the value (many reviews would agree [wired.com]). Enjoying the device thus far, and hoping that if I do experience a battery failure that it takes place under warranty.

Good luck!
Jon

Will this connect to 2 screens via usb-c? I have a dell docking station for my work computer and hoping to be able to swap out the computer and use both screens with different content on each.

Monitor support on computers without discrete GPUs is a limitation of the CPU. According to the Intel spec sheet it supports 3 total monitors, the laptop screen and 2 external monitors.
# of Displays Supported 3

Is the $15 shipping and handling also applied to "ship to warehouse"? In case of returning this item, will I lose the shipping and handling charge? TIA
