I went to China this summer and was amazed how much the car manufacturing industry has advanced there in the last 5 years, due to massive capital investment and fierce competition. Just imagine Kansas alone has 3 startup car manufacturers. 5 years ago the streets were full of German/Japanese/American cars and all of a sudden they are flooded with local brands cars. Many people I knew there sold there BMW and Mercedes for local brands that I had not heard of. Not because they are cheaper but better for the same amount of money. On average it takes a Chinese car manufacturer 18 months to design and mass produce a new car, and it is 36 months for a Japanese/American car manufacturer. They are reshaping the industry. In Mexico nearly 30% of new cars sold are Chinese brands. No wonder the US government had to add a hefty tariff on Chinese cars because if not, sam thing happened to Japanese cars years ago will happen again to Chinese cars.

The Chinese and Koreans practice gov subsidized industries with cut throat control. When Apple needs 10k engineers they just pluck them from the nearby factory, not resumes/linked in. Just done. When the startup goes broke, the nearby startup just absorbs them, not some vulture capitalist
It has led to fascinating innovation at unknown costs…which we could just throw $10bill at our car industry and say get with it or go broke…. But that'll never happen.
Several documentaries Walmart sold out our manufacturer, they told Rubbermaid to cut price by 10% and go do it in china. This isn't about thousands it's about nickels
