The USA is in a difficult spot economically. Every single tactic has severe disadvantages. Tariffs are a way to bring the relevant nations to the negotiation table. In the end, that's the hope. The USA has chased it's manufacturing base out of the country. We are looking into the abyss of a variety of devastating monetary issues at the same time. Even with a dream team administration, we may have to endure severe burdens going forward. Can't avoid the basic physics of economics forever! We are wearing out are ability to kick that can down the road.

Is this better than the "Husky Tool Storage Standard Duty Red Tool Chest Combo (27"W x 18"D x 58"H) $298 + Free Store Pickup" from yesterday? I'm trying to decide on which one I should go with.

Unless you are willing to pay $1000 for this thing, manufacturing jobs are not coming back to the US. The best scenario for the US is to move some manufacturing back with the adoption of more and more robots.
I went to China this summer and was amazed how much the car manufacturing industry has advanced there in the last 5 years, due to massive capital investment and fierce competition. Just imagine Kansas alone has 3 startup car manufacturers. 5 years ago the streets were full of German/Japanese/American cars and all of a sudden they are flooded with local brands cars. Many people I knew there sold there BMW and Mercedes for local brands that I had not heard of. Not because they are cheaper but better for the same amount of money. On average it takes a Chinese car manufacturer 18 months to design and mass produce a new car, and it is 36 months for a Japanese/American car manufacturer. They are reshaping the industry. In Mexico nearly 30% of new cars sold are Chinese brands. No wonder the US government had to add a hefty tariff on Chinese cars because if not, sam thing happened to Japanese cars years ago will happen again to Chinese cars.

Yikes, lots of inflation on these. Picked up the 52 inch version with peg board a few years back for $198. Has been solid for the $. Wouldn't touch this for $298 though.

FYI if depth is a complaint I discovered the 52"x 24.5" all black version under the same page is also on sale from $648 to $498. I was also disappointed in the 18" depth.

As much as I'm sad I missed this for $199, I don't think prices are coming back down anytime in the near future. I've had my eye on these for a bit, so I think I'll probably bite on 2, try to find a way to back to back them. storage + work space.

oh, and 10% military really made this more enticing.

Japanese actually paid their people more money…. They just out innovated us… their main innovation was quality. Not the latest trinket the salesman shows you.

The Chinese and Koreans practice gov subsidized industries with cut throat control. When Apple needs 10k engineers they just pluck them from the nearby factory, not resumes/linked in. Just done. When the startup goes broke, the nearby startup just absorbs them, not some vulture capitalist

It has led to fascinating innovation at unknown costs…which we could just throw $10bill at our car industry and say get with it or go broke…. But that'll never happen.

Several documentaries Walmart sold out our manufacturer, they told Rubbermaid to cut price by 10% and go do it in china. This isn't about thousands it's about nickels
