Pcie-5 and atx 3.0 go hand in hand for psus. Basically a pcie gen 5 psu has a 16-pin 12VHPWR connector capable of delivering up to a maximum of 600w (the connector on the psu in this deal only supports 450w). The atx 3.0 standard also includes more stringent requirements for a variety of attributes, such as a requiring far larger tolerances for power excursions.
Somewhat outdated article (the 12vhpwr connector has gone through a variety of changes due to it being a fire hazard), but it goes into a fair amount of detail on the atx 3.0 standard: https://www.tomshardware.com/news...u-standard

Edit: I made a mistake in my initial assertion that this psu was C-tier on cultists. A bunch of posts about this psu in both previous deal threads and reddit posts referenced it as being c-tier, and I saw reviews listed for this exact unit on the cultists psu tier list sources and info spreadsheet. I therefore just stated the rating on the tier list for the only msi mag psu listed believing it to apply to a range of msi mag models without properly verifying. It turns out that while the spreadsheet already has reviews listed, the tier list hasn't been updated yet, and the rating is only applicable to the msi mag a-bn model.

The 12v2x6 connector on this psu only supports 450w as opposed to 600w power delivery standard on higher wattage units. The msi mag a750gl has a 5 year warranty, rather than the 10 year warranty many higher end units have. A review of this psu can be found here: https://www.eteknix.com/msi-mag-a...ly-review/

I'd consider $70 to be an okay price for a 750w atx 3.0 psu of this performance tier from a major brand if it didn't require jumping through any hoops, but I find it rather hard to justify dealing with the mail in rebate at this price. Additionally, 750w is quite low at this point, and considering how a good psu can last through multiple builds and potentially over a decade of use, I generally recommend spending a bit more for something more "future-proof". Decent 850w atx 3.0 psus can be found for ~$80-$100, and decent 1000w atx 3.0 psus can be found from ~$100-$130.

750 watts was sufficient in 2008.

now it would barely power a mid range Video Card alone.
Dude, I'm running 4080 super with 13700 on 550w PSU with no issues. Runs super stable.

Newegg Rebate is not reliable. I have previously 3 rebate purchases and never get back check.
Isn't this an MSI rebate? Could possibly be more reliable.

Thermaltake Toughpower 850W Gold Full Modular Power Supply for $79.91 a few days ago seems like a better deal.

ive been temped on this but been holding back to avoid a mail in rebate. for those claiming this is C-tier, im not sure what list your using, but cultists hasnt rated it yet. the C tier there is the A-BN model
Someone here should be able to share the link to the list with you.
As for my suggestion, when it comes to components like the power supply, which is used heavily throughout a PC's lifespan and can be carried over to a new build, investing a bit more can be very worthwhile. I usually consider the manufacturer's warranty— a 10-year warranty is a strong indicator of quality.

Should people just not buy these PSU's if the 12vphwr is a fire hazard?
Is the connector on the PSU the limiting factor of only 450w being delivered through it? Can I plug in a connector that delivers the 600w?
There's no real reason to avoid a psu with the 12vhpwr connector, you just need to be extra careful when connecting it to make sure it's fully seated and not under too much strain. The issues with the connector melting were quite rare and only really occurred with rtx 4090, which draws massive amounts of power. Their were some initial quality control issues, and the 12vhpwr standard, particularly in it's initial configuration, had extremely low fault tolerances. It was also quite easy for a user to accidentally not fully seat the connector, in which case under the right circumstances it'd start to melt. So long as you're not using any of the old recalled adapters, make sure the connectors are fully seated, and leave enough clearance to prevent sharp you bends putting strain on the connector, won't have any issues. If you want more information, gamers nexus has an excellent video about the 12vhpwr standard and it's issues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y36LMS5y34A

Moving on to the power delivery limits, you should only use the included cable for the 12vhpwr connector, and do not try to exceed 450w. Likewise, this psu has 3 pcie 8-pin connectors, each supporting up to 150w for a total of 450w power delivery. Gpus with a 12vhpwr connector usually come with an adapter for 8-pin to 16-pin conversion, so you can technically use the 8-pins instead of the 16-pin if you want, though I'd generally recommend avoiding adapters if possible. Either way, you won't be delivering more than 450w of pcie power with this psu, and if you'd be looking to do so you really ought to be looking at a higher wattage psu anyways.
