Per one of their managers, they have (and have had for a while), a known issue activating user's service once they've ported their number into Total Wireless. For those users they cannot attach your plan to your phone number. I spent over 5 hours today on the phone with these people. They will not come out and tell you that this is a known issue. Rather, they will keep you on the phone for hours, shuffling you between departments pretending that the department they're transferring you to will fix the issue. It's a game of hot potato and you're the spud. I literally had to demand a manager after the third transfer (hour number 3) before I found out the truth. He (manager) tells me that they will need to open a "ticket" and I should hear something back by TUESDAY. Now mind you they have ported my number in but can't activate my service. So my phone is completely unusable. Their system has already charged me for the plan, yet they want me to buy another plan that is supposedly going to fix any of this. After I push back about how another plan will work they admit they don't think it will.
I decided to cut my losses, buy another plan online from a real cell phone carrier, and port my number back out of Total Wireless. I secured another plan at a real cell phone company and asked for my account number and transfer pin from Total Wireless. Guess what? They couldn't generate a transfer pin because you have to activate a plan to actually port the number. Two hours later their rep finally finds a plan within the Tracfone Universe (not a plan from this promotion) that will attach to my phone number long enough to generate a transfer pin.
The representatives at their company are all off shore, have thick accents that you can barely understand, and have horrible attitudes even when you're nice to them (despite being put through literal ! by their technical issues and lack of process). The bottom line is they really don't care. The company refuses to fix the technical issues and the reps have become numb and flippant with customers because they know they can't fix the technical issues.
I escaped with my phone number, a loss of half my Saturday, money down the drain on a Sim card, and the loss of my old cell phone plan which still had a few days of service left. Others I have read (with reviews within the last few days) are still trying to get a transfer out pin to port their number back out.
The service and lack of customer service is so bad there that it feels like being part of a Saturday Night Live skit. If you were able to take advantage of the deal and everything went smoothly for you, great. However, to those who haven't tried yet, beware of what could happen to you. At the first sign of trouble (error messages) from their system abort the process and reach out to their technical team before proceeding. I would advise no one use this company based on their online reviews.
That's fine if you don't believe this is the process, but I've changed devices a few times already using this method. Doing it any other way, you'll risk losing the promo.
True. I would save my headaches rather saving a few bucks with this company
Reps making excuses or simply having no idea how to do anything. Maybe they are powerless, but an FCC complaint got someone from Tracfone corporate to call me back and fix the billing issues at least as far as I can tell. We will see if the first automatic payment goes through and the promo sticks.
They are now trying to help me fix another issue with a 16000 points rewards purchase of a $300 coupon where I applied the coupon code and they just canceled the order for no reason, I'm out 16000 points or $300 in credit.
Tracfone (parent of total) has been full of incompetence at every level except the fcc complaint tier. If I didn't have years of service credit stacked and tens of thousands of rewards points tied up I would have just filled charge backs and moved on with life. As it stands, if I can have them let me spend my points on gift cards I will, and simply ride out the line promos until it ends.

It does, I changed phones after the $15 multiline promotion ended, it still kept the $15.
