Word of caution, this is by far the worst company I've dealt with. Transferred from T-Mobile using their last promo for $15/mo per line. Promo pricing never applied. Filed FCC complaint. Their customer service is completely useless. I will be porting out all of my lines at a first chance I get.

Over the years I've taken advantage of several cell phone deals posted here. I say that to explain that I'm well versed in switching carriers, porting numbers, and activating service. It's not rocket science and as long as you follow the instructions you're usually just fine. Such is not the case with Total Wireless. After getting caught in a literal nightmare with them I went looking for an explanation on what in the world was going on with this company. They have a solid 1 star review at Trust Pilot. In fact, they have mainly all negative reviews online that I could find.
Per one of their managers, they have (and have had for a while), a known issue activating user's service once they've ported their number into Total Wireless. For those users they cannot attach your plan to your phone number. I spent over 5 hours today on the phone with these people. They will not come out and tell you that this is a known issue. Rather, they will keep you on the phone for hours, shuffling you between departments pretending that the department they're transferring you to will fix the issue. It's a game of hot potato and you're the spud. I literally had to demand a manager after the third transfer (hour number 3) before I found out the truth. He (manager) tells me that they will need to open a "ticket" and I should hear something back by TUESDAY. Now mind you they have ported my number in but can't activate my service. So my phone is completely unusable. Their system has already charged me for the plan, yet they want me to buy another plan that is supposedly going to fix any of this. After I push back about how another plan will work they admit they don't think it will.
I decided to cut my losses, buy another plan online from a real cell phone carrier, and port my number back out of Total Wireless. I secured another plan at a real cell phone company and asked for my account number and transfer pin from Total Wireless. Guess what? They couldn't generate a transfer pin because you have to activate a plan to actually port the number. Two hours later their rep finally finds a plan within the Tracfone Universe (not a plan from this promotion) that will attach to my phone number long enough to generate a transfer pin.
The representatives at their company are all off shore, have thick accents that you can barely understand, and have horrible attitudes even when you're nice to them (despite being put through literal ! by their technical issues and lack of process). The bottom line is they really don't care. The company refuses to fix the technical issues and the reps have become numb and flippant with customers because they know they can't fix the technical issues.
I escaped with my phone number, a loss of half my Saturday, money down the drain on a Sim card, and the loss of my old cell phone plan which still had a few days of service left. Others I have read (with reviews within the last few days) are still trying to get a transfer out pin to port their number back out.
The service and lack of customer service is so bad there that it feels like being part of a Saturday Night Live skit. If you were able to take advantage of the deal and everything went smoothly for you, great. However, to those who haven't tried yet, beware of what could happen to you. At the first sign of trouble (error messages) from their system abort the process and reach out to their technical team before proceeding. I would advise no one use this company based on their online reviews.

https://www.totalwireless.com/activationselect "keep your own phone" then "keep your own number" and select the number you want to assign the new phone to. They will send a text to the number with a verification code, then after you put it in, it should ask for the simcard / imei number and proceed to finalize the process.
That is literally the activation steps by signing up for new service, I don't think it will work with someone that's currently on their 50% promo say a year from now when they want to upgrade their phone. Your method will probably work if there's a new and better Total deal, and by creating a new account and port from Total to Total.

That's fine if you don't believe this is the process, but I've changed devices a few times already using this method. Doing it any other way, you'll risk losing the promo.

This is the worst POS of company I have ever dealt with. I tried doing the $15.00 deal and it was a nightmare for a month and I ported out... NEVER AGAIN!

It's been the worst customer service experience I've ever had with a company. Everything I did was to the letter of the instructions so I didn't need to interact with their "service " representatives. But it failed to apply the promo, so I had to call.
Reps making excuses or simply having no idea how to do anything. Maybe they are powerless, but an FCC complaint got someone from Tracfone corporate to call me back and fix the billing issues at least as far as I can tell. We will see if the first automatic payment goes through and the promo sticks.

They are now trying to help me fix another issue with a 16000 points rewards purchase of a $300 coupon where I applied the coupon code and they just canceled the order for no reason, I'm out 16000 points or $300 in credit.

Tracfone (parent of total) has been full of incompetence at every level except the fcc complaint tier. If I didn't have years of service credit stacked and tens of thousands of rewards points tied up I would have just filled charge backs and moved on with life. As it stands, if I can have them let me spend my points on gift cards I will, and simply ride out the line promos until it ends.

customer service is bad but service itself is good , no promo code needed just click on the 50% ad on the front page of totalwireless and follow instructions and once a plan is selected it will proceed to show you the total and on the bottom it will show the 50% pricing , also add autopay . no customer rep can help , it has to be online or in-store ONLY!!! . IF YOU WANT TO SWITCH TO ANOTHER PHONE , ANOTHER SIM CARD HAS TO BE PURCHASED AND TO DO EVERYTHING QUICK JUST BUY THE .99¢ SIM CARD FROM FAMILY DOLLAR AND CUSTOMER REP SHOULD HELP TRANSFER YOUR SERVICE TO THE NEW DEVICE. NO ESIM AVAILABLE ONLY FOR IPHONE 12 AND NEWER.

Not that I don't believe you, but I can see this working only if there's promo going, but I failed to see how this method can somehow keep my current promo.

It does, I changed phones after the $15 multiline promotion ended, it still kept the $15.

I've use this service for around five years, phone service is good, customer service is terrible, I have a legacy plan, same as the $25 plan shown here but I pay more and have less hotspot. Mine is $30 per line, I have 2 lines. I called to see if I could get same plan as new customers when it was $15 per line to switch 2 lines to them from t mobile, which is what I did years ago, guess how that went 😆 Makes me mad being so loyal and treated worse than new customer. And… when company owner changed they took my hotspot away, called and they got it put back on, but only 10 gb per line, they claim it's always been 10gb per line on my plan, which is a lie, when I first started I had no hotspot, then unlimited hotspot was added later

FYI I'm still fighting with this company to get them to honor the $15 per month unlimited special which I signed up for on 9/29. 11 call plus FCC and FTC complaints filed and I am only close to
Getting resolved.
