Doesn't the plastic dry out, causing the line to break off prematurely? I've soaked trimmer line in water to combat this.

I think it's the opposite, the line gets water (humidity) In in from the air, and that degrades it.
That is correct. You might try storing in a zip lock bag.

Trimmer lines are made from plastic. It's common sense that plastic does not absorb water. So water/humidity has no impact. Temperature will harden or soften it. So store it indoors where temperature is controlled.
Plastic, especially nylon, which trimmer line is typically made from, can indeed absorb moisture. Make sure to store indoors as it can degrade from exposure to sunlight.

I do heavy brush cutting on the side with a FS131R and FS130 with bike handles. The best line I've found is MaxPower Twisted, .105 and .130 if you have a 36-2 head. The MaxPower line is slightly oversized and you can buy it at AutoZone and home Depot. Well worth the extra money, your machine will love it!!!
I ran an FS74 for nearly 30 years. Still works, but upgraded to the FS131 and I couldn't believe how quick it breaks the .095 line. Feel like I throttle it around anything in case I bump the string. I used some .105 on the spool last time and it lasted a lot longer. Could be age of old line too I guess from this post. The big spools tend to be around a while. I'll look into that 36-2 head though.

No. You soak the line periodically in water to revive the plastic. This is a trade tip.

You'll probably be alright, but spinning the literally heavier line will put a strain on the motor. I guess it will depend on whether the manufacturer left a margin for the motor, or, it's operating near it's limits with the OEM .065". One thing is certain, heavier string, cordless trimmer, each charge will last a shorter amount of time.
It will stall if load is too high. Margin of safety isn't a concern for the motor's longevity. You could load the motor hard enough with the smaller line to do the same.

Is it ok to put 0.080 in a 0.065? I see that 0.065 tends to break off pretty frequently as it is very thin in my cordless trimmer.
Oh ya. The end might be too big to fit into the hole that you insert the end into. Make the hole bigger or mash the fkr in there. Thicker line is so much better and satisfying.

MaxPower Twisted is phenomenal. I bought a 165ft line .105 over 4 years ago and still have at least half left. Used in a Makita 36V trimmer it is so resilient that I only have to bump feed once or twice for the whole property. Trimming against concrete, wire fence, t posts, stone garden edging… it's super tough stuff.
