Will a refurbished Kindle or even a Fire TV Stick purchased from Woot be eligible for the 20% off Amazon trade-in discount? I've heard that Amazon may issue the 20% off discount only after receiving the trade-in products if they are not directly purchased from Amazon.
Agreed, that is hard to read and I'm sure many won't bother

All of that said, IF you think that 20% discount is worth buying a device to trade, just go ahead and do the trade in as soon as you have the woot device. You don't have to be buying a new item to do the trade in. Send it in and let them receive it, check it out and add the 20% discount to your account. You can then have it waitng for any holiday deals.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Sounds like it's YMMV regardless where the Amazon product was purchased from.

(I actually did this with an old Kindle last week that WAS offering me an instant 20% discount on the new Paperwhite. But I want to see if the paperwhite goes on sale, and I knew there was a chance that if it did, I might not see the instant discount at that time. So I did the trade without purchasing anything, and now have 20% off in my account that should auto-apply if I buy a Kindle before it expires, which I think I have until early Jan to use it, would have to check again.)

Amazon just came out with this all new generation of Kindles, so I doubt the prices will drop a whole lot ( maybe $20 off) for Black Friday.
You can always go through the trade-in motions on your Amazon page and enter possible trade-in devices. Just don't complete the transaction.....obviously.
For reference, I'm being offered $5 trade-in credit GC for an old 4k firestick, $15 for a 2020 Fire HD 8 or $30 for my 5th gen Paperwhite.
I've got a long standing Prime account with many prior trades under my belt, so I always get the "Instant Trade-In credit" and coupon. YMMV
