Waiting … Apple's Xmas deal +15-20% off Apple gift cards at Target, Best Buy, Amazon, etc. Use these to buy base Mini 7 + Apple emails $50 gift card after sale for $362 net price. Even lower at $320 net price at Apple Ed store: $50 off list + $50 Xmas deal + buy w/disc. gift cards. I buy $1,100 of 15-20% off Apple gift cards every Nov-Dec. Discounts come as store gift cards & credit card rebates, which I spend within months.

It's dramatically better and cheaper (thanks inflation!) because the price hasn't gone up, but now has 2x RAM and 2x storage in the base model. Runs upcoming AI features with a great 1-year-old top A-series processor, great for gaming, and runs cooler (3nm). The size is its magic. Not a pro-level iPad but the smallest, great for specific uses. Price won't drop more than $50 off at any retailer, usually, for Xmas promo. Check Best Buy open box for more savings.
I've owned a few—perfect to bring everywhere. Phenomenal notebook, supports the new Apple Pro Pencil too!

Yes, there will be a $50 gift card but you won't get it with the EDU store. So buying it now is cheaper, because paying tax on $450 is better than $500 plus tax, minus $50 GC.

yes, that is the case with Apple (or technology in general). If you jump one generation, the increase in performance and features are very incremental and can feel boring. Some people come from an iPad mini 4 or 5; for them it's an amazing upgrade experience!

My way costs $363 net, even w/o expected holiday or black Friday $50 gift card (gc)promo at Apple edu store.
