I found various online retailers are selling
Goodman e-Series - 12k BTU Cooling + Heating - Wall Mounted Air Conditioning System - 18.0 SEER2
for less than $400
or similar 9k, 18k btu mini split system for highly discounted price.
Goodman used to be an entry level bland for HVAC system in the USA but bought by Daikin (the largest HVAC company in Japan) about 10 years ago. Since then, the products qualities, aftermarket services are getting better?
Mini-split system is still not so poplar in the vast majorities of the USA but very poplar in the rest of the world, Asia, EU, etc. The system is similar to the typical car HVAC system that comes with 2 main parts, compress to exchange heat to cool then transfer the energy with refrigerant (used to be Freon, 134a, but now 410A) to the interior coil (indoor unit) that convert back to cool or warm air.
Depend of the system the energy efficient level are varies but there will be no combustible gas and environmental friendly. Mini split system will be the future of the most HVAC system in the US sooner or later due to it energy efficiency. In the state of CA, many cities are no longer allow to have conventional gas furnace for new homes and heat pump or mini-split are the new options for those.

Mini-split is relatively easy to install for existing houses as you don't need to run new air ducts but just skinny refrigerants pipes and wire.
Power requirements are 120v or 240v. If you select 120v unit, the initial installation cost might be less but the running costs would be higher and you will not get a powerful unit but smaller 9k or 12k or less small units only. I would recommend to go with 240v

Most people might imagine similar idea as those windows units those are noisy but not efficient to run and also high electricity bills, but mini-split system is NOT like window units.
Mini-split system is very quiet and much more efficient than windows units.

The cons for mini-slit would be
1. not so poplar in the USA (and many people don't know about it and scare it is same as window unit, - noisy, ugly, not efficient, not air-tight, high running costs)
2. the indoor unit will be visible
3. since it is not yet popular, the pro installation cost would be high
4. required special refrigerant (410A)
5. most people have negative image to mini-split system as current product line-ups are by not so well known, China or start-up brands in the USA and indeed those units might not last as good as Rheem/Goodman/Mitsubishi/LG/Samsung/Panasonic, etc.

This is just my personal opinions but I would like to avoid those eBay not so know companies TLC, costway, and I will never buy electronics from AliExpress tumi that might cause fires and also life safety without proper formal UL certificates...

the sets are online for the indoor/outdoor units but no connecting pipes and wires and other misc. items are included so you need to spend another $40 ~ 100 for that. Typical kits usually run from 16 ft to long one would be 50 ft? Depend on where you install those units.

For instance below. I was suspicious before I received the item but indeed I got the item and it is a real Goodman/Daikin product directly shipped from Daikin wearhouse in TX.

https://voomisupply.com/products/...8YQAvD_BwE

Beside above some other online retailers are selling for $400

Below is 11.10.2024 update (somehow, retail site url update once in a while, so link break but if you google with key words "goodman mini split system 9000, 12000 or 18000 btu" you should be able to find below deals.

I see 9k unit at $279 or $368 (be careful! - the $287 at minisplitsystemsdirect.com is outside condenser only, not the whole system with indoor unit)

but those prices are higher than I originally quoted but still good deal than the Home Depot 24k Pioneer for $1398

the best way to get line set is on ebay with wire together
but after the hurricane they jacked up price average $20 ~30 per sets.

For Goodman, 18k unit required 1/2" copper and 9k and 12k use 3/8". I think if you are not in hurry the ebay price might come down.

I need to buy one of those "50 Feet Install Kit For Mini Split Heat Pump Systems 1/4" - 3/8" Dia." but they are now asking for $100~/set vs it was less than 80 before.
planning to cut this down to half to use for 9k and 12k set.

Even the lousiest heat pump will beat a conventional heater. That's pure physics. A heat pump may or may not be sufficient for a particular situation but will always be superior.
Even though there is a "conventional" heater on the coils of the heat pump for winter operation??? OKAY!

Yes. The math is not difficult. A heat pump will be as efficient (inefficient) as a conventional heater at the worst of circumstances. 90% of the time it will be better. At 55f maybe 2-3 times better. Okay?

Not bad. I got a couple complete 12k's for $400 each with wifi but you can't go back in time. Wouldn't mind getting a 9k for the cargo trailer. I have a couple 6ft remnants from the last install for linesets. FYI, the freon in the condenser is probably good for 10-25ft line sets, at least in the 12k.

Got this exact unit from theacoutlet a few weeks back and had it put in this week. The box says Goodman but it's Daikan labeled all over. Install was straightforward, and I didn't need to add any extra refrigerant for my 25' lineset
how long did it take for you to install this? did you have any help? did you ever have any previous hvac installation experience or did you just wing it DIY style lol?

For those worried about ordering from Voomi, like I was, you need not worry. I ordered and received an email order confirmation, was called 1 day after by the trucking company, and my 9k unit was delivered damage free 3 business day after order. Like another commenter has mentioned, these are in fact produced with Daikin parts. They were bought out by them years back. For $291 w/ dropped at my driveway this deal can't be beat in my eyes.

Where did you order your wiring and coils from?

crazy cheap, is there a wifi add on you can get for this?
We have the Pioneer brand, but most are the same. With Pioneer the WiFi adapter is about $35 and be installed later

Hi guys, the instructions show that they are 220v based versions. Does that really make sense to use in the US.

All house AC systems are 240V in the USA. Many 12K minisplits and virtually all above 12K.

I have updated the original post.

240v power is stronger and also energy efficient. I you have 240v option, you should go with 240 not 120.
Typical 3 wires Elec. Panel have 240 ready for it.
You just need to add a new circuit breaker and draw a new dedicated power from there to the outside unit with a disconnect box, etc.

You can hook it up directly to the 240 VAC line. This 240 VAC power is split into 120 VAC + 120 VAC inside the breaker box. AC electric range and AC water heater will usually run from the 240 VAC circuit. Power in watts = voltage x ampere. Higher voltage will require less current draw.

The prices are good, But like I said I know nothing about this company It's just really odd that I got this warning pop up when I looked at their website and it's very rare that I ever see this pop up warning so I'm going to pass.

Thank you
Worked pretty smooth!

I bought two of the 12K units and they arrived last Thursday. I'm about 80% done installing the one for my garage. I'm at the point where I've verified that the system holds testing gas at 500 PSIG for 24 hours. I've done an automotive condenser replacement before so not my first time DIYing AC. I did end up getting the elliptical flare tool $49, pipe cutter $15, and flare deburring tools $8 from Home Depot as when I connected the Ebay line set first attempts resulted in messing up the factory flare. I would recommend just familiarizing yourself with the feel of the recommended torque versus using the crow feet adapters with the torque wrench. That clumsy geometry increased my fail rate on making the connections. You'll have a hard time finding a leak without a way to pressurize the system. I know Nitrogen is the recommended way but I bought a $35 nitrogen regulator on Amazon and used my Argon/CO2 welding gas since I already have it and 500 PSi should be close enough to the 600 the install guide recommends. I didn't notice in the listing that the regulator maxes out at 500. Overall, I'm about 10 hours in. If I were to do the same install again I think it would be half the time. I also bought a micron vacuum gauge on Amazon but I'm not really sure it is necessary if you've had a good pressure test. Minimum line set length per the instructions is 10' with the factory charge. I'll post an update when I've charged the system.

I have always been told to avoid this brand. Let me know if things have greatly improved recently.

your "always" might be outdated.

the brand name management has been replaced back in 2012 and also the name in 2022.
