10,000 points = $100
what amount of points (define as X) * 150% = 10,000?
1.5X = 10,000 --> X = 10,000/1.5 = 6,667
with 50% bonus, $100 = 6,667 points, a savings of 3,333 points (10,000 - 6,667)
3,333/10,000 = 33%, or a 33% savings
said another way:
normally $1 = 100 points, but with the 50% further $1 = 100/1.5 = 66 points
Old Price = 100 Points
New Price = 66 Points
Change = (New price - Old price) / Old Price = (66 - 100) / 100 = -33/100 = -33%

The self-proclaimed point experts are going to tell you that this is a terrible deal because you can get a better "value" booking travel with points. What they don't realize is not everyone is looking for a 4 cent pp redemption on a round trip business class flight to Zimbabwe.

This not true. I just went through checkout for a new iPhone and tax was added at end. This works out to 1.5 cents per point which isn't bad for a points redemption.
Rather than explaining the math, I'll give you the best way to check, just go select the base model iPhone pro - which is $1000 (which should be 100,000 points) but essentially you pay 66667 in points.
