I'm in same boat with an ER4 (back when staples coupons worked and they sold ubiquiti).

I always wanted to use IDS and have a built in network controller. Currently, have a rPi running unifi network controller and piHole and waiting for a bigger upgrade.

I have a used unifi es-24 poe that I'm waiting to die to just upgrade the entire stack. Piece-meal won't satisfy my upgrade itch Smilie

OP, while protect is great there is no support for motion events with ONVIF (yet), you'll be losing a lot moving from Blueiris

I have deployed several of these and they are great. I think they fixed the manufacturing process but one of them came with a crooked lcd. If only they came with POE ports that would be awesome.

No, but there are several videos on YouTube and they are easy enough to configure. Get the USG Ultra for home use and it's good enough.

Would be perfect for me if it had just one 10G SFP+ LAN port. Looking at their other stuff, though, there are some nice options if combined with a switch.

I have Edgerouter X installed (with Unifi APs) in 3 locations for about 4+ years and they are flaw less. Two of the 3 have fiber internet 1G symmetrical and this devices works amazingly well. I recently configured a USG lite and also UDM SE. I am still not convinced that I need to upgrade the Edgerouters. The homes use RING cameras so storage is not an issue. The interface for Edgerouter is separate from Unifi software running APs, but I rarely ever need to go in those settings. I think that USG and UDM has advantages of configuring VPN over Edgerouter and if I ever upgraded the internet to more than 1gbs speed, Iay consider upgrading to a USG device. I don't plan on "fixing or replacing something which is not broken".

Should be noted the ONVIF support is extremely limited at this time. It only offers live view and passive recording. There's no PTZ control and no motion events at all. I will say I've been able to import a Tapo C120, C320WS, C325WB, C520WS, without major headache. I would imagine eventually all the functions will be on par with what you get with Unifi cameras and the Tapo app, but it's not there yet and I don't believe they've officially confirmed they'll ever be there. But they added ONVIF after years of not allowing it, so never say never.
In my case, I'm looking to replace all my ring cameras with Tapo because tapo cameras are cheaper, have ONVIF support, and have 2K. I personally think the C325WB color night vision is out of this world, and nothing in Ring or even Ubiquiti compares. It'll be 2AM and it looks like high noon. I'm not exaggerating. I would say if you're looking to put something like Tapo within the Unifi ecosystem, you could install them and adopt them just for recording and live off the tapo notifications until they're fully integrated in Unifi, which is what I'm feeling I may do.

I have the UXG-Lite currently and it's great, but been looking for something with 2.5gbe ports incl WAN. It looks like UCG-Max and UXG-Max are both $199 and both have 2.5Gbe. I'm not seeing much of a difference between the two besides the built in controller. Any drawbacks for this over the UXG-Max?

What configuration are you looking to run?

You could use one of their L3 switches to offload vlan routing.
