I always wanted to use IDS and have a built in network controller. Currently, have a rPi running unifi network controller and piHole and waiting for a bigger upgrade.
I have a used unifi es-24 poe that I'm waiting to die to just upgrade the entire stack. Piece-meal won't satisfy my upgrade itch
UX products are the ones that either need to rely on Unifi Hosting, or need a separate device that has the controller software. Since you already had a UCK - the Cloud Key (for the people reading this who have no idea what we're talking about) with the controller built in to it - on your network, when you bought your UXG, the UCK did the controlling for you.
The Cloud Gateway products just do what you do, but in one product.
Appreciate it!

What features does adding a storage drive open up?
In my case, I'm looking to replace all my ring cameras with Tapo because tapo cameras are cheaper, have ONVIF support, and have 2K. I personally think the C325WB color night vision is out of this world, and nothing in Ring or even Ubiquiti compares. It'll be 2AM and it looks like high noon. I'm not exaggerating. I would say if you're looking to put something like Tapo within the Unifi ecosystem, you could install them and adopt them just for recording and live off the tapo notifications until they're fully integrated in Unifi, which is what I'm feeling I may do.

You could use one of their L3 switches to offload vlan routing.
