The days of the IDE are sort of over in the sense that the real selling point of any coding tool (text editors, command line tools, etc.) will be AI integration. If you haven't already looked at Cursor (editor) or Aider (cmdline) then do so just to get experience with how AI can help you with development. VS Code with Copilot is good too.

I agree to some point but not for AI features. VS Code's introduction of the LSP changed everything for simple text editors and sort of killed IDEs. Nowadays anything that can run an LSP language server and treesitter (e.g. vim, or better neovim, emacs, sublime, etc) all caught up overnight in fancy language features traditionally only found in IDEs. As for AI features you'll find Copilot has plugins for these simple editors too. So for slightly more advanced users who want to skip bloated IDEs I'd just recommend a simple editor + LSP + treesitter for whatever language you're programming in.
Wow, that's quite amazing! As someone dabbling in UnrealEngine, I repeatedly see Rider as being much better than VS. I've never bothered to try it because I'm learning this just for fun, and didn't want to spend money on Rider. Now I can see what the fuss is about!

My "nothing to see here" referred to their announcement not being a big deal given that you can't use it for comercial purposes.
