Yes, your expensive pro model is still supported -but the same generation non-pro model doesn't support IOS 17 (feel free to google it if you don't believe me). This 9th-gen is not a Pro model and as such has a year or two less software support than the 9th gen Pro models.
Where did you get 1-2 more years of software support exactly? My 2nd gen iPad Pro from 2017 is still getting software support and firmware updates, 7 years later. It was just updated to iOS 17.7.1 literally yesterday.
I'm not sure that you can do better than $200 for an ipad

Prime Visa knocks another $10 off as cash back too. I did this last month as a Christmas present for my nephew moving up from a Fire tablet. It's not the fanciest iPad, but as a Kindergartener I think it'll be plenty for him for a few years and is still a huge boost over his current tablet.

You are probably right. I was thinking they've been trying to unload the 9th gens for a while and maybe places like Target would throw in a gift card with purchase or something along those lines.

Is this a better deal at $200 or the 10th generation at $280? My wife is looking for an iPad to replace a general use laptop at home.

What makes you say that? I have seen this $199 deal at least three times over the past couple of months, and they seem to be holding steady in stock.

I love iPads, but this is over four years old. It's got 64gb of storage, only 3GB of RAM, and it's only going to have a year or two more of software support is my guess. I wouldn't buy it myself, but if all you plan to use it for is streaming shows and movies then it's still alright.

Android tablets at this price are pretty hit-or-miss, but it's not unheard-of to find one that's actually decent for around $200. I personally would consider saving a bit more and grabbing a newer-gen iPad on sale just for the peace of mind of longer software support and being able to use things like an Apple Pencil (these models don't have the connector to charge a gen 2 Pencil) and the additional processing power and RAM to handle multi-app use.

then buy it already. What are you waiting for, $189? The 10th generation is going to be $249 on BF (if not cheaper)

If you have any current gen apple devices, this iPad will feel very dated. The slower response rate and app launch times are incredibly frustrating compared to, for example, an iPhone 15.
